Part 61 or Part 141?

It's 250 vs 190 for the commercial. Under part 61, 50 of the 250 be done in an inexpensive ground trainer. I think the money issue depends on which school you go to. What if 141 school charges more and doesn't use ground trainers? It just depends on the situation more than the reg.

I just heard that under the Part 61 you have to have 250 hours instead of having 125 under Part 141. Wouldn't I save money going the Part 141 route?

Possible....but here's my situation.... I currently have 160 TT and need to get to 250TT for the 61 commercial. My school (141/61) has a 120 hr Commercial program and I would have to do all of that because their "program" is 120 hours and that would put me at 280TT which is more than the 250 needed for the 61 program. Plus the 141 program has 55 hours of dual rec'd time. Which would lead to more money spent on an instructors time. Therefore the 61 program is bar far more cheaper for me.

In addition to possibly more expensive instruction, some 141 schools require a formal ground school as part of the cirriculum and charge WAY too much for the ground school. For the commercial, you'd probably only need 1-3 hours of ground with an instructor one-on-one as opposed to a $400-600 ground school.
