It's been 20 years since I was at Parris Island in 1st Battalion, 1059, and 22 years since I graduated from New York Military Academy which was an Army JROTC school.
Parris Island is divided up in to several areas. Receiving, 1st & 2nd Battalion, and administration are all in the parade ground area, not much to do there but formation drills, as it's mostly barracks, supply, and administrative buildings. The obstacle course is on the far side of the parade grounds and that is lots of fun! You guys may get to run the Obstacle Course and take a shot at the Confidence Course, both are challenging and fun if you don't have a DI breathing down your neck the whole time. The rifle range area is off by itself with it's own barracks, and the barracks for the Drill Instructor's school. You probably won't get a chance to use the range since it is always busy but it is neat to see. The island has an old airstrip that is surrounded by what seems like miles of wilderness (probably not, but it sure felt like it!), that is where they took us for "hell week". Recruits never get to see the rest of the Island where the regular Marines work so I can't tell you whats there. Should be a fun trip, at least you can say you were there! Are you staying in the barracks or camping out?
