Don't shoot the messenger!

I received an email asking to come and interview for a Captain position. Everything I have heard about the place has been negative but the info is over a year old. Has anything changed and gotten better at this place?

Are they still doing interviews out in Hawaii? What are they hiring for? Only Hawaii?

I can't tell you if things have gotten better or not, but management is suppose to be pretty bad. There was a recent interview gouge on WFFF, read through that it will give you a good idea how this company operates.

What's the pay? What's the base? How much time off do you get? That's all the matters. If management pushes you, say no, and if you get fired, then that's for the better anyway. If the top three don't line up then there's no point in going in the first place.

I left out the last part of the email because it has some sensitive info about myself, but it looks like they are looking to hire into a place other than Hawaii.;)

As of December, everyone I ever spoke to who flew or had flown for them said essentially "Run, don't walk away". It would have to have changed a LOT in three months...

out of curiosity how come you guys get those emails? Is it from a job site or because of applying previously?

The Jobs Available forum is a forum for POSTING jobs, not asking about them. Use General Topics or one of the other forums if you need to ask a question about a particular company :)

Here are some answers to questions about the Pacific Wings LLC First Officer program that you may have.
Where are pilot bases located and how are do pilots get assigned to a base?
Currently we have SIC bases in Albuquerque NM, and Athens GA. If a job offer is extended you will be notified
at that time on which location you would be hired for. We do consider requests for specific base assignment. If
you prefer a different base that what is available we do allow transfers if and when a position becomes available.
Where do SICs have training conducted?
Currently all our training is done in Albuquerque NM. Training typically takes 2 weeks depending on class size.
After successful competition of training and checkride you would then start flying at your assigned location.
How many pilots are we hiring?
2 openings.
Do I need an FAA certificate?
Yes.
Do I need to be a US Citizen?
No, but you must be able to work in the USA. We do not sponsor potential candidates.
What is the pay?
$1300.00/mth to start; after 90 days, $1500.00/mth; after 1 year $1700.00/mth and raises every year thereafter.
What is the work schedule?
5 days on, 2 days off. Workdays are 6-14 hours long (can change) depending on the daily schedule. You will fly
from 6-12+ legs per day. We a 24 hour, 365 day a year operation and scheduling can be at anytime during
day/night. We do currently have day and night shifts.
How many hours of flight time will I get?
50-100 hours of flight per month.
What is the pro-rated training contract?
This is an $8,000.00 training contract with the airline. The contract is 12 months in length. Should you leave
employment (voluntary or involuntary) prior to the end of the 12-month period, you will be required to pay the
balance of the contract. The balance due on the contact will decrease by 1/12th every 30 days of employment
following the date you pass your check ride with Pacific Wings LLC.
How soon after I have the qualifications, as a Captain will I be able to upgrade?
We hire or upgrade about 6-8 Captains per year. You would be able to upgrade within 3 months of reaching the
minimum qualifications.
When flying will I return to base at the end of each shift?
Currently all shifts end at your base but in the event you RON (remain overnight) at an outstation Pacific Wings
LLC will provide lodging and Per Diem.
Where do I go for the interview?
After scheduling with me the interviews are held at the Albuquerque International Airport (ABQ). You can go to
our gate at E1 and advise the agent you are there for an interview and they will direct you to the interview
location.

I've had the same experience. However, before I had met anyone from there I did interview with them for a PIC position and was very underwhelmed. I posted my experience under New Mexico airlines here on JC. In short: I'd recommend people stay away.

Another reason to RUN and STAY FAR AWAY is this quote...WTF if they fire you or lay you off you still owe them the cash...

This one is even better....the sad thing is someone will go and do this...

Dear Applicant for First Officer:

Thank you for your interest in Pacific Wings LLC and its d.b.a.New Mexico Airlines and Georgia Skies Airlines. We currently fly a fleet of Cessna Grand Caravans. Although Caravan experience is a plus, it is not necessary to join our core of pilots. We are looking for highly motivated pilots that can handle passengers, baggage, customer service issues, and are willing to put in the effort to make Pacific Wings LLC a great airline. We are currently offering a unique First Officer program.

You must be a FAA certified pilot and be able to work in the United States of America. You must meet this requirement to work for Pacific Wings LLC.

You would be hired as a customer service agent/ramper, and fly as a First Officer. You would be paid all scheduled activities.

You will be required to sign a one-year pro-rated training contract. Flight training would be about 1-2 weeks ending with a 135 check ride.

Once you have completed your training and pass the checkride, you are eligible to fly as a First Officer for Pacific Wings LLC. You will be scheduled to fly the line 3 days per week and work ramp and customer service 2 days a week (there are sometimes more fly the line days but not guaranteed).

Our minimum requirements for First Officer are: Commercial SEL, and Instrument Airplane. You must be an active pilot and current on instrument skills. We will train you how to fly a Caravan, we will not train you how to fly instruments.

When you reach our minimum requirements for Captain, you may be eligible to upgrade as soon as a slot opens up.

Our minimum requirements for Captain are per 135.243: Commercial SEL, and Instrument Airplane, 1200 Total Time, 500 hours of cross country, 100 hours of night, and 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument.

We provide full medical at no expense after the first 30-60 days of employment. Spouses, children, and dental coverage are extra. We offer Vacation and a 401K. As a First Officer, you also have jumpseat and non-rev privileges with several major airlines.

If you are still interested in becoming a First Officer for Pacific Wings LLC, we invite you to come to our training headquarters in Albuquerque NM for an interview. Applicants must be prepared to start Ground School within 2 weeks if selected. We know that your experience here will be rewarding and valuable.

Upon receiving this email response and you are still interested in becoming a First Officer for our airline, email back to me with the phrase “PAH SIC” in the subject line and what time date and time you would like for an interview. All communications with me must be via e-mail only, please do not call.

Regards,

Pacific Wings is a joke and a POS operation! The freakin' CEO isn't even old enough to rent a car and has no real business experience.

Saw them yesterday in and out of BNA - they have a little office in Atlantic's FBO. After reading the posts about them no wonder the pilots look miserable.
