Owning a floatplane but not living on waterfront property

Maybe it's location, not the plane !!

what's civilization to you folks?
and how close are you willing to be to the edge of your idea of civil society?
Not exactly sure what you mean, but I'd prefer to live off grid someplace beautiful and just visit a "civil society" if I need to.

They leave the plane on a trailer at the airport in a normal tie down spot and launch it just like a boat.
I'm not tracking.
They leave the plane on a trailer at the airport in a normal tie down spot, but how do they launch it like a boat if it isn't at the lake? I guess they could pull the trailer behind a truck going down the runway and lift off when airspeed is fast enough?
But then, how do they recover the airplane from the lake and get it back to the airport without pulling the wings off to go down the road?
There's something I'm missing, but not sure what...

There is a lake at the airport. I forgot to mention that I was referring to Lake Hood, it has a Lake and an airstrip.

What determines if a body of water can be considered a legal place to put down / take off ?
My daughter has a property on a nice wide calm river, close to a nuke plant, and one afternoon we were all startled to see a 'floatplane' touch and go, still wonder if that was legal, of course who could of or would have done anything !!
