OTS score question

best bet would be to find a tower/facility that NO ONE wants to go to... like... uuh... i dunno... think of the absolute worst s*** hole in america and put your geo pref in for it - you'll at least be in the career field and can bid to move up once you get CPC.

Casper Wyoming!

they are having trouble staffing it

yeah i wanted to say Wyoming but.. it's still kindof a cool place - so I was then thinking about saying like.. the Dakotas or some barren plains kind of state but even then.. there are people who like it out there like that.

I applied PUBNAT 7 and I scored a 84.9.... yea pretty frustrating. The only thing that I can think of now is to start touring some facilities around me and make my name and desire known to some managers and maybe they will look for my name when the panels meet. I have a 4 year degree and I'm a CFI,CFII so hopefully one of the managers will be able to see past my .1 shortcoming on the ATSAT.
It ain't over till its over. Good luck all.

Who told you that? No it ain't. Not southern Wyoming, where Casper and Laramie and stuff is. Lots of dirt and rock, mostly.

Oooh, but you can drive as fast as you want to on the highways. Back when I lived in Colorado, I used to see what my car's top speed was on trips out to Utah. Problem is, at the end, we found ourselves in... Utah.

Would your location matter?

When I was up in our tower a couple of weeks ago, there was a girl there that is from Dunn Ave in Jax. They chose her because she lives two miles from the facility. If this is the case, I have ZJX down the street from me and I am a ramp rat at JAX I hope that will help me.

Others might disagree with me, but from what I've seen, the FAA has a tendency to pick people who live closer to the facilities they're selecting for -- at least within the area. That doesn't mean that they never pick outside of it, obviously (I live in Texas and got Seattle, so there you go), but generally speaking, you'll see people around NY getting picked up for NY, people around Denver getting picked for Denver, and so on. Of course, part of that could be limited perception on my part; it may be that people who already live in one area are more inclined to put that area down as their preference.

Anyway, doesn't mean that you won't get picked for an area far from where you live, just that it's possibly a small edge in the selector's eyes if you already live there. It'd be one less thing for them to have to worry about. I certainly wouldn't pick up and move somewhere just on the hope that it might help your odds.

My two cents.

I got ZJX and I'm from MD. Hopefully going to the OKC pretty soon.

Getting picked up with a qualified score happens but it's rare from what I understand. Trying to network is probably your best bet at this point, and if you're willing to invest four to five years of your life in your future you could always go military which seems to be the best way to get in.

Some of the ATMs I spoke with said they want local people because they are more likely to stay.

They'll pick someone local whenever they can.

Comair - I would retake when you have the opportunity (I believe you need to wait a year?) there was only one person at the ATL pepc (that I ran into) that was not in the 90's
