OTS score question

I applied OTS for Pubnat 7 and ended up with an 82.3 on my test. Now I know for OTS applications the applicant needs to be well qualified and have an 85 or better. But, I had a friend telling me that it may be possible to go to a level 7 and below tower. Just wondering if anyone had any factual information to back this up? Thanks for the help.

No matter what ANYONE tells you, there IS a chance but you shouldn't hold your breathe or count on it. :(

Hey, I applied for PUBNAT 4 and obviously didn't get picked up for the referral list. I took the AT-SAT last September 08' and got a WQ. Does anyone know if I get skipped over to retake the AT-SAT for PUBNAT 8? I'ms assuming from others posts that your score lasts up to 3 years and that I just ride along the waiting train with everyone else until Geo Pref e-mails are sent out?! Thanks

3 posts in and hijacked already...awesome.

They difinately don't give the lower level facilities the Q list just because they don't handle as much traffic. All of the facilities are required to hire from the WQ list first, regardless of their size.

In PUBNATS 5/6 one person was hired that didn't have a WQ score and we don't even know for certain that this guy wasn't trying to piss people off.

Gotcha, thank you. Well they asked me for my geo prefs the other day, so I guess I'll just play the game to the end. I'll let you all know if they do pick me up.

I hate to pile on but your initial odds don't look good, but if you not pushing 31 re-take the ATSAT in a year and apply again, they will be hiring air traffic controllers in pretty high quantity for at least 5 more years according to the FAA hiring plan, so there should be lots of opportunities in the future too.

No, I know. I'm not really getting my hopes up for this. If they don't accept me I'll just take it again next year. I still have time. Also, will they email me and tell me I don't qualify? Or will it show up on the ASAP page?

If you scored a 82 you do "qualify" for your application to be reviewed when the hiring panels meet, and after that the people invited to a PEPC get an e-mail about it. If your not selected, you do not get a rejection letter unless they newly start to send them out with the more recently PUBNATS, you just won't get the invite to a PEPC.

Last person on JC that was picked up with a qualified score for sure was a PUBNAT1 guy. Nobody else (to my knowledge) has been picked up with anything less than an 85. There are just too many people out there with well qualified scores for the FAA to even get to someone with a qualified score right now.

best bet would be to find a tower/facility that NO ONE wants to go to... like... uuh... i dunno... think of the absolute worst s*** hole in america and put your geo pref in for it - you'll at least be in the career field and can bid to move up once you get CPC.

When I toured a level 6 up/down facility they had an OTS trainee that said he got an 83 on the at-sat and he had no background in aviation.

Which Pubnat was he from though? People from Pub 1 with qualified scores were selected. After that there were just too many applicants and they never really got to anyone who was 'qualified'

I bet it still wouldn't matter. Based on my personal experience in the process, they'll just toss some WQ guy/gal at that tower that didn't want to go there. If they actually paid any attention to the comments you made, you may have a point, but I get the distinct impression that except in a few select cases, they look at the states, and en route/terminal only.
