OTS Announcement - 4/14/08

I got it. My heart jumped when I saw that I got an e-mail from the FAA, only to find out that it was just informing me of the new announcement that A: I already filled out, and B: Shouldn't even matter since I filled out the one in February. Why must the FAA play with my emotions so?

I guess alot of people were applying that did not meet the requirements. You think they are making everybody reapply from the last announcement in order to weed out all the people who applied last time that didn't meet the requirements?

I also received the same e-mail...I started the application process when I realized that I may be answering some of the questions a little differently than the original application...you know, the biographic questions part. I wonder if this would be a problem. Oh well, I guess I'll check the answers to the original application so there is no discrepancies on those questions.

I think this sounds like the issue! Notice how the email specifically called attention to 'if you do not meet these requirements...'. I think a lot of people that didn't meet the requirements went ahead and applied anyway. Did anyone have trouble getting onto the site today? I don't know if I missed that there is site maint or not.

Just like everyone else, when I got the email I got REALLY REALLY excited!!! The funny thing is I test on April 30th -so I don't know what I was sooo excited about lol... but it felt good nonetheless!!!

Long Island - here I come!!!!

This is what I ran into on the FAA site today.

The FAA Career Opportunities Page is temporarily out of service. We're working on the problem, and expect to be back on line soon. Sorry for the inconvenience. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

ASAP will tell you straight up that you do not meet the requirements, and then it just simply does not refer you.
Application Status

  • Thank you for submitting your application for announcement # AAC-AAT-08-CTO-09133. We have determined that you are NOT eligible for this position. Please recheck the announcement requirements or contact the number listed in the announcement if you would like further information.

Click here to view the most common reasons why applicants are found to be ineligible.
ASAP is entirely automated.... Everything on the questionnaire has a point value, and when they want to make a list from the announcement they go to their computer and tell it to pump out the top #### scores, the people with those scores get sent to the boards and the rest do not get referred.

That said, I assume that the preference worksheets will not be requested until after the referrals are made, which will not happen until all the testing is complete and scored. And from what I am hearing that is April 30th for the last test, which probably means add 3-4 business days to that forthe tests to be graded and posted. So my best guess is May 2nd to the 5th for the referrals to be made. Probably the wish lists collected that week and the next. And you can't forget all those of us that are applying with Veterans preference, inwhich we have to submit documentation that proves we are eligible, etc. So I see as a rough estimate, the packages will be sent to the boards sometime around the 14th of may or so..... right at the time the site goes down for maintenance.... go figure....

Hey guys,

Just a few questions from a wanna be controller...

I applied for the most recent OTS announcement posted 4/14.
I see some of you are still going through the process for the Feb announcement ,and some earlier than that.
But I'm just wondering what I might be looking at for a time frame on being selected to take the AT SAT, and then after that, how soon the test dates occur.
The announcement closed on Friday, so would it be unreasonable to expect to hear anything by the end of this week?

Also, how hard is it to be selected for the test? Do they generally allow most "qualified on paper" applicants to take it, or is it more strict than that?
I think I have a solid application, complete with 4+ years of work experience, and all the right answers. HaHa

If I did get selected, will they tell me when and where I have to go for it, or do I get to choose the location and date?

Sorry for the babbling....
Thanks!

I by no means am well educated on this process, but I would give them from a couple weeks to a few months to schedule the AT-SAT. I think if you meet the minimum requirements they will give you a chance to take the AT-SAT. Robinson Aviation has been contracted out to administer the test so you will probably receive an email from them telling you a test site and contact information to confirm the testing date. Atleast that is how they did it in my case. I don't think they give you the option of choosing times, dates, or locations. I called and tried that unsuccessfully. Good luck but be patient.
