Online high school aviation education course

Promoted by the EAA, which lends it a lot of credibility in my book. One may be able to get high school science credits upon completion.

Anyone doing this program yet? It looks pretty new but I'm wondering what you guys think. Couldn't find a price....

I wish they had something like that when I was in high school - all my high school gave for my training was an accused absense when I took my checkride. They even had to go and ask the 'higher ups' as drivers test you can take a half day off, but no where does it say any FAA tests.

WOW.. i would have loved to have taken a course like that in HS when I actually was interested in being a pilot...

As I was applying for UND my counselor told me they were going to start offering this next year or the year after.

Thats Awsome, im not sure if My high school would count it as science credits though......They wanna see "stuff" like Bio (completed), Chemisty honors, AP, or IB (completed college prep) physics (taking in my sr. year)...or AP bio....

You can do Lesson 6 for free but that won't do you much good if you dont know jack about airplanes.

I took the same stuff you took chris. I would definetly do physics, unless your math sucks, it made me look at things differently, like flying, driving, heck just about anything with movement. It will probly help you understand an aerodynamics class better if you take one because you'll already know the basics with bernouli's (probly spelled that wrong) and newton's laws.

I'll stop before I start rambling and get off topic

Tom

Well please tell me if I'm wrong but pretty much everything to do with why and how aircraft stay airborne is covered in Physics - obviously not meaning the details of piloting, but the Physics in school is good enough to understand lift, drag, the use of rudders, ailerons, flaps, fuel usage, etc.
Finally if you aren't good at Maths, Physics is goanna be hard, and how you goanna be a pilot anyways. Pilots even need geometry!!!

Yeah, I agree with you about that. Correct me if I'm wrong but the math you use when you fly is not that complex? I'm guessing you commercial guys flying big use the same math or something similar to the math us guys flying bug smashers use right?

That is kids stuff compared to the math I had to use in physics. I guess I should of said if your not a math wize not to expect A's and B's in that class.

Tom

Don't scare the kiddies! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Smilecrunch.gif Come on, I made through Physics with a B+ and I slept or daydreamed through a good portion of the class. Why is it that all physics teachers must use a monotone?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

High school is easy compared to college - partying all night, and attending your 9:00 class hung over is much harder then any physics class I took!

Hey I'm a kid too, just graduated highschool. Physics isn't all that bad. I just had a teacher that taught it too long and taught like everyone already knew what physics was all about.

Tom

Mate, I took Phsyics Honors in 10th grade. I slept through most of it the best part of that class was the guy infront of me was the star football player (his name is Norm Katnik, played for USC, and now at the 49ers), and he took me too all the senior's parties, if anyone questioned who I was he would step in, he would always introduce me to girls, and when (it is a case of when in OC) the police would roll, he would always find me and make sure I was OK.

Senior year was the worst year. For parties and screwing around anyway. It seemed like every party was getting busted. I always seemed to get out alright though. Don't know how. I don't look older at all. My face makes me look like I'm about 12.

HA HA HA - that made me laugh

Our parties always got busted - it was like clock work 10:30 the cops would roll. There was this one girls house, that solved that problem though. It had a trail right behind it, so when the cops would come, we would pick up all the beer cans/trash/coolers, put them in the kids play house, and scram to the trail that ran along the back of the house. About 5 people would stay up in the house, so when the police came they would thought it was just a little get together, while everyone (generally 30 plus people) were about 1/2 mile down the trail. They would be told to keep it down, the police would leave, cellies would ring, and we would roll back and carry on. The best part of this, was the girl's house this was out parents owned Hotels in Korea, so they were gone regularly.

Boy HS brings back the memories.

Nope. Once you learn to carry one every time you get to 6 in the second column, you've got it made. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thats pretty much how I always got away too Iain. Only we always ran down the back yards a couple of blocks. Most kids were to drunk or too excited to do this so they would all get caught and a couple of freinds and I always got away. Except the one time I got caught, I ran with my beer and got a possession of alcohol under age citation. Darn
