one less ugly plane in the world

There was (terminated due to other circumstances) a AMFer that ripped the gear off on a botched landing and stuck around.

I'm not one to recommend people get fired at the drop of a hat, but an accidental gear-up...yeah, I can understand it. Really sucks for the pilot, but wrecking up a perfectly good airplane isn't a slap on the wrist offense...

I have a couple of hours as a fo in the metro, wouldn't that thing be making all kinds of noise on the way down?

A guy at my old company (after I'd left) geared up an MU-2. He had 10,000+ hours in the airplane and was generally regarded as an excellent pilot (not to mention a real nice guy). If you think it can't happen to you, you're kidding yourself. Check twice, check three times...hell, check four (I do). Best of luck to the Amflight guy.

PS. For what it's worth, the guy I knew was not fired.

Again, you have to really look at the totality of the circumstances.

Oh, I certainly agree. But a new pilot on the airframe without a proven track record (like Boris' example)...I can understand it. Don't necessarily condone it in every circumstance, but if I had an accidental gear-up in a company airplane, I'd expect to be terminated.

not to be too morbid, but do you got any pics of that?

When on short final, I try and do a "three green/pumps on(emr fuel in the PA31, aux hyd. in the Lear)/killer items checked.

I don't. As I heard the story, it went the way these things usually do with a longbody...tons of damage to the fairings where the gear goes, but totally repairable. I think it would be a lot worse on a shortbody without the fairings.

Isn't this aircraft fitted with a gear warning horn, where if you have a flap selected beyond a certain range it goes off?

That's because he'd been there for a while and management liked him.

Amflight has never had any rhyme or reason for terminating people.

My point was that someone can cause serious damage to a plane and stick around.

My previous employer is going to keep a guy around after he ran out of fuel. That is if the feds give his medical back after the concussion he got in the crash and if he keeps his certificate.

it breaks when you hit so hard the runway needs to be resurfaced ...... CaptBill knows all about this ...... ;)

If the beauty pageants didn't have at least a few ugly girl contestants thrown in, the real talented ones would not stand out. I see my role in aviation is to make guys like Charlie, Dale, Doug and MikeD stand out as superstars which I have become quite proficient at doing. I'm surprised Toria still wears her back and neck brace from the last time she was on my airplane. I think she is just trying to pressure me into settling out of court for my new motorcycle. :pirate:

Only if your gear retracts .......... fixed gear prevents this, unless it breaks when you hit so hard the runway needs to be resurfaced ...... CaptBill knows all about this ...... ;)

My insurance only allows to retract the gear once on the Cirrus. :)

Since it was only gear issue did they have to immediately inform the NTSB? Or just wait and see if the request a report on the incident?
