On the road...

On the road this year as an aerial survey pilot. I'm sure most of you guys know about the job description but, for those who don't, youre on the road for seven months and not going home for anything, not even a holiday.

We started the first week of November and actually got underway on the road here about two weeks ago. In those two weeks, I've flown about 50 hours. So far I've been in Rochester, NY, Johnstown, PA, Atlantic City, NJ, Pittsburgh, PA and now at KLUK in Cincinnati, OH.

Hills of PA, sure is no good landing spot out here!

After about four days of work in Johnstown, PA I left for Atlantic City, NJ.

After the Atlantic City, NJ project which was one day of work, I flew to Pittsburgh, PA.

This solid layer went from about KILG to about 25 miles east of the NESTO Intersection. Which is about 100nm.

Just west of Pittsburgh enroute to KLUK, I assume this is West Virginia.

At the end of the day, 5.1hrs of flying, I did the ILS 21L into KLUK. It wasn't terrible, broke out at around 600 feet, -ra, br.

Cool pics. How did you like Atlantic City?

Why is the exhaust extended to the back of the plane?

nice pics. That is a good amount of flying you're doing! How are you liking it so far?

I'm enjoying it so far, a lot of paperwork. Seems like I'm in a new area every week so trying to negotiate hotel, rental car and fbo prices is a huge pain in the rear. The flight time is good, which is why im here. It's actually slow right now, I guess normally around Jan-May youre looking at 80-130 hours a month. Nov, Dec is expected to be 40-60. The time underway now is 3 weeks. I do miss home and my GF.

Why is the exhaust extended to the back of the plane?

There are camera's mounted in the rear of the aircraft. They extend the exhaust piping so the heat blur does not interfere with the images being shot by the camera system.

Can you do the surveying when it's overcast?

Yes we can. As long as we have a bright enough, unobstructed view of the ground we can shoot.

Pretty much what we do is fly lines in the sky back and forth all day long, imaging the ground\property. We do work for local counties\government etc etc etc. If you go to Bing.com and check out the birds eye view of neighborhoods, that'll give you an idea of what we do. Most of those pictures were taken by our pilots.

Really nice shots-

Enjoy yourself out there, I had a good time on my 7 months.

And get used to ppl asking you about the muffler.
