Omni Air International

I'm not sure if there are any guys here that are current pilots for them. @dasleben may still know someone there though.

It is a supplemental 121 carrier. Ultimately pay is low and you can be gone for very long stretches of time. It is also a volatile market. Note how some supplemental 121 carriers have started to disappear.

I have a friend that was there, but ultimately left despite a few years of seniority. I think he was on the 777 at the time. I think overall he was just plain tired of that type of flying.

Pay is low. $50k-$60k/year is pretty typical until you upgrade. Even then, it's less than what you'd make slinging gear elsewhere. 60 hours/mo guarantee, no rig.

QOL: Expect to be junior-manned to a 90-day TDY right off the bat. As I'm told from guys still at Omni, don't expect to be able to go home for that stretch. TDY guarantee is only 60 hours/mo.

18 on/12 off schedules otherwise, with company option to involuntarily extend you 4 days.

Not recommended unless you want some quick big airplane time to pad the resume before moving on. In that sense, it was a good move for me.

Flown with a couple of CAs here that they were there. They all said run far away. YMMV, of course, but the long haul junior man horror stories were enough to scare me away for life.

I agree 100% with @dasleben.

Omni slid down hill for me as soon as they decided to short staff the airline (which had been traditionally overstaffed) and junior man. Even as a mid-seniority 767 FO, I was going to be junior manned into the 90-day TDY, and there is no coming home. That, and you will spend a positively epic amount of time deadheading around the globe in a coach seat for 18+ hours at a time.

The positives are that the crews were a blast, and I got to fly to some places I never would have seen otherwise. It was a good three years, but a career airline it is not.

Same here. Just for the experience, and resume padding, I'd love to get some big airplane time, but I'm not going to spend that much time sitting in a hotel and a coach seat without seeing my own bed for 3 months.

I was there for 7 years and recently left. If you do a search, you'll find a recent thread with my views. Dasleben and T-Gates pretty much hit the nail on the head.

You know I wouldn't mind the 90 day TDY if they paid more. But 90 day TDY and sub 50K pay is just to much.
I think first year pay over there is in the 54-55k range, but yeah.

Anyone wanting to do the ACMI thing should really come over to Atlas instead. Barring that, just stick around where you're at and wait for a better company to call. We have our issues just the same, but it's still night and day compared to Omni.

If only it was that easy to get into Atlas......

You guys are so right, sounds downright CRAPPY! I might just hold out and not go to the interview. Might just hold out till FDX or UPS calls.....lmao

Well Fedex and UPS have both called regional pukes believe it or not. There were guys flying Convairs for a salt lake group who got to ups well enough. It sounds like your set for it, that's fine and everything, but your argument that Omni is your path to Fdx or Ups might be a little closed minded. Besides, Fedex was something like 80% ex military so you may already be taking the wrong path to begin with.

Now, with all that said, take the Omni job because you want it, you're not convincing anyone here that you're risking a brillant future with Fedex because you skipped the Omni job fair line.
