OKC Fishing

So pending FOL and clearances I am hoping to be in OKC when there is still some warmth left.

Did anyone currently or in the past at the academy find any good fishing holes or a good pond to kill some time at? Also any idea on the cost of an out of state license for the few months you are down there.

While sitting around hoping my day comes soon I am trying to sort through all my junk of what I actually need and dont need to take with me and have my fishing stuff on the maybe list.

You can go 'noodln'! If you don't know what that is (and I didn't), you're in for a treat. There's a great documentary on it floating around the net someplace. Yeah, my roommate was all about it and we bought cheap poles at walmart. Our apartment had a huge lake, but only caught small bass. But, the apartment was a dump.

'noodlin is when people stick their hands into catfish holes. They stick their arms down the mouth of the catfish and pull them up. Not exactly my cup of tea.

My grandfather told me how he went noodlin' with one of his cousins when he was a kid. He stuck his hand in there to feel around for a fish, and came up with a snake instead. He never went noodlin' again.

Yeah, I don't trust mother nature to protect me. Plus, the thought of a water moccasin attaching itself to my hand just doesn't top my list of things I want to experience.

I went 'noodlin' ONE time in the Waa river outside of okc, the idea is to find a submerged fish whole and stick yo hand in it, fish bites on and you pull em up. Just a little on the crazy side...

lol, I am definitely more of a rod and reel guy!!!!

I talked to a guy fishing lake erie one time who showed me his half nubbed middle finger he got while noodling.

Lets just say noodling and snapping turtles dont mix according to him.

Would short term lease be considered a resident? I know here in ohio they go off of your license when you get it and just scan that in the system. Im guessing oklahoma does something similar which could make for some pretty expensive fishing trips doing a non resident license.

Funny this thread was started because we going to leave in about 2 hours to go to the bass pro shop downtown buy a pole and a license... then i saw the license prices and now i think that idea has gone out the window. there are a ton of lakes down here and i wish i would have brought my pole...

What was the license price? I drove NW of my apartment looking for that huge "lake" on the map, I didn't see it driving blindly, so...

Yeah, anyway, I'll ask my lead instructor, he's apparently a huge bass fisher. We'll see what's up. I prefer it to be a tish warmer before I head out.

Are you referring to Lake Henefer? Take the Lake Henefer Expressway...you can't miss it ;)

For the one off Rt 66 (39th N.), it is small and it is just past council.

Heffner is straight up meridian. you go through the light @ northwestern going north. then veer right. lake is on your left and its pretty large.
Fishing licenses: 37$ plus 5$ general license.
Also... lakes around here have fees around 20 per day.
We asked the guy at Bass Pro Shops how strict they were here... he said pretty strict- 150$ fine and they confiscate your tackle.
I think I will personally wait to fish until I go home. would rather pocket the 100$ then spend it on tackle i have at home
