I will be in oklahoma soon and I was curious if anyone who has been there or knows someone who was there knows any information about the academics that are taught there. The hardest test. How the normal routine goes. Any information that I could get to try and get a leg up on my studying since there is soo much time until my start date. Anything would be helpful, personal or professional. All I know is something about a map that alot of people have trouble with.

The map you are hearing about is for en route people. I don't have a link handy to the map, but i'm sure someone could provide it if you need it. Here is how basics works: do about 6-7 lessons then have a block test (about once a week) and then you have a comprehensive at the end.

There are four different classes offered for us in Oklahoma, and the one you take depends on how you were hired, and what facility you are going to.
The Basics class is 5 weeks. If you were hired through CTI (you got a college degree in air traffic), you do NOT have to go through basics. This is only for people who applied off the street.
After completing that, you will go to either the terminal (tower), enroute (center), or RTF (radar) class, based on what facility you go to. If you are going to an Up/Down facility, you go to the terminal class first, then move to your facility; you'll spend several months checking out on clearance, ground, & local, and then return to the academy months later for your RTF for the radar room downstairs.
* The terminal class is 7 weeks long.
* En-Route is ten weeks, but now you have to attend two weeks of training on URET (user request evaluation tool), which is basically an eletronic flight strip computer. This makes the total for enroute+URET just over 12 weeks.
* RTF training is 4 weeks long.
So, if you graduated CTI and are going straight to a TRACON, you will be in class for only 4 weeks. But if you were hired off the street and have to attend basics, enroute, and URET, you're looking at a 17 week stay in beautiful Oklahoma City.
