A descent rate of 20,000 fpm? What kind of deck angle are you talking about with something like that?

If I'm reading this correctly, the 20,000 foot descent was initiated by the pilots? Can some of you kerosene burners elucidate on the practice? I seem to recall hearing of such "high dive" emergency descents due to pressurization problems as a way to avoid explosive depressurization and/or the Payne Stewart cryogenic deep-freeze.....???
 
Check out the article again, they stated that they did it because they lost cabin pressure (I had to read it twice to see that, it's kinda burried).

"Once the aircraft stopped its dive, Perry said the captain explained the plane had fallen victim to a pressurization problem but had levelled off at 2,440 metres."
