Ok, Now I\'m confused.. How many writtens?

Ok guys-

I'm totally confused now..

I've taken the IRA written.. I'm ready to take the CAX written this week.. The Flight/Ground Instructor written... I just read some threads that looks like I need to take the FII written also.. Which is from the same test bank as the IRA test, which shouldn't be too bad if that's true.. Is it?

What all writtens do I need to have out of the way before I try and attend ATP.. Looks like I left out the FII..

You've got it right:

IRA
CAX
FOI
FIA
FII
( 5 tests total )

I'd also take either the IGI or AGI, so you can be eligible for a Gold Seal CFI in the future.

Hehe.. the only problem is.. I just sold my instrument study course, however, I absolutly LOVE the Gleim Computer study setup.. I've been studying since Monday about ~4 hours a day and have the CAX stuff DOWN... I'm averaging a 92 in pre-tests.. Made a 97% last time I took it..

I'm going to order the instrument setup since the FII comes from the same stuff..

Man, if I don't make a 100% on the FOI test, someone aught to slap me with a cold trout.

Which pool of questions does the AGI questions come out of? And just to verify you only need the AGI or the IGI to be eligible not both correct?

The AGI comes out of the Flight/Ground Instructor bank...

Tram how much better is the Gleim software than the book? Is it better than the sportys study buddy and free test? Just wondering if it is worth the $$$.

Well.. The software is the book, just on the comp.. I am much better at studying something on the computer.. I spent $130 bucks and got the Commerical and Ground/Flight Intructor and FOI prep.. I've spent less than a week studying (~4 hours a day for about 4 days) for the CAX and am ready to go..

The Gleim setup will let you take a test... then you can create a study question of the questions you missed.. Gleim will also "sign you off" as soon as you have answered every question in the bank correctly atleast once.. You can print it out right then.. No messing with instructors.. It's very nice.

I would reccomend the Gleim stuff.. I'm loving it.. It will even allow you to run a "test" in the format of your testing center, IE LaserGrade, CATS, etc.. Which I find to be really helpful..

When I was studying for the IFR test, I used the ASA DVD course and the Sporty's Study Buddy.. The Study Buddy rocks.. It helped me a ton.. However, there is no "buddy" past the IRA test.. I would save the IRA money, use the study buddy for the IRA and put the money toward the commerical/instructor tests..

Thanks, I used the ASA for the PPL and IRA test along with sportys. But I noticed that you took the IRA test only a short time ago and now are onto the CAX so I figured that the software must be great just because of the short study time for you. Thanks I will look into it.

Yeh, the software rocks.. I really like it.. I took the IRA last Monday.. Then ordered the Gleims.. Got it like.. Friday.. Didn't start studying until this Monday.. Plus, I seem to find myself on the internet alot during the day, so I can study 200 questions.. browse the net for a bit to let my brain relax.. study another 200 questions..

I reccomend the software 110%.. I like it so much, I am thinking about buying a laptop just so I can use it while at ATP...

The laptop can be used for other things too. Like tinkering a little on one of those sim programs or checking email (wireless connection). Watching DVDs when you get a break, or updating your resume when you get a chance. I will probably bring one along...

A little off topic but what do you need to use those wi-fi spots. What extra parts do your laptops need?

No, no Wi-Fi is provided. I usually ate dinner at a Panera Bread a couple of times a week, and they have free Wi-Fi. I also had a T-Mobile account for use at Starbucks but didn't use it too much until I got to Jax, as there are lots of Starbucks there, but none in Stuart.

Let me ask you this, how does the wireless setup at places like this and starbucks work? I am unfamiliar with all of this..

Panera is among my favorites, $7 for better food than most places serve for $20. Hey, I'm a CFI....

You will need a wireless network card or a notebook computer with wireless built-in. To use a free access point such as Panera, you simply boot the computer and it will find and log into the network on its own-you're surfing immediately.

To use the T-Mobile system at Starbucks (among other places) costs $30 per month for unlimited use. When you boot your computer there, it will find the network but ask you for your network key, which is given to you when you register for service. Enter the key, and you're surfing. Windows XP makes this process painless and automatic.

Other places such as hotels and airports use a variety of wireless services, each requiring a separate subscription since you can't roam across networks. I think that will be the undoing of wireless internet-it's like cellphone companies that won't let you talk on each other's networks.

I am looking at a Dell Inspiron 1100.. I've heard alot of good about Dell Laptops... Looking at getting built in 802.11g wireless..

I'm gonna need a phone based ISP for times when I want to use the net at the apartment/hotel so I'm thinking Earthlink.. I've been down the AOhelL road..

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've gathered the ATP apartments don't have phone service so you'd have to use a wireless phone if you want to access the internet.

That's right. I used a data cable on my Nokia phone, and just did all my surfing after 9pm when my airtime is free.

Another box checked.. Passed the CAX today.. Didn't get as high as I would like to have gotten, made an 89, but I think I did ok for less than a week of studying.

Well, I guess we're onto the FII, aiming to take it Thursday..
