Well, first I have to say that you Phoenix folks are crazy, as I type this I'm in Mesa and its just too dang hot for May. And whats up with the 101?

Anyways, I just found out that this summer I'll be working in Alaska for an outfit called Lake Clark Air. I'll be doing a lot of line-type work in a bush environment, as well as some other non-aviation related work. After that, it's time to start my PPL.....

Oh, and the best part is that I got the hook-up for this position from someone here on the boards, whom I'll let identify himself if he so chooses.

Congrats on the position! I'll take the Phoenix heat anyday compared to the crappy weather Chicago has right now.

Well actually I was referring to the detour off the 101 freeway. A royal pain let me tell you. And the heat was compunded by the fact that BOTH of our AC systems on the bus are having issues. I get to run around Phoenix on Monday in an attempt to deal with one of them. I've gotta drive to LA on Tuesday with the gang, and they'll be really ticked if I can't get at least something going.....

Well I've actually been there before. I took the liberty of checking your Alaska photos that you have online, and it seems that you were on an Allen Marine boat while you were in Juneau. I was actually working there at the time; Doug was actually standing next to one of my co-workers in one of the pics. So pretty much what you saw on that 3 hour tour (yeah, we had some parodies of that) I saw the whole summer. I've got LOADS of pics if anyone's interested in hosting. I haven't quite gotten aroud to that yet....

I was gonna say, "Didn't Chris work there?" I sometimes regret not taking the similar opportunities I've had. Best of luck.

[/ QUOTE ] Well, the closure's on the 101 just started this weekend.. they let us know about a day in advance of when the closure's are going to happen and it looks like it'll be more weekends than just this one weekend... i'm thinking probably about 4 weekends in total.. 2 for the southbound and 2 weekends for the northbound...sucks, but needs to be done! When I hear about the closure's going on, I pretty much stay home the entire weekend! haha

[/ QUOTE ] That's awesome.. We had a blast on the Juneau excursion and Doug really hit it off with the guy on the boat (more than with the guy on the seaplane/Fjord tour)! How funny that you were working there - makes it a pretty small world huh!? I would definately be up for taking another one of those excursions!!!! Seeing all the whales, eagles and sea lions was just incredible....You'll have to let us know when your back up there, so we can come up for a visit (granted, we won't bug ya.. but it's good to know someone in town too, you know - pointers and all that!)...

Congrats, Flying in Alaska is an awesome experience. I really enjoyed my fling experience up there.

Thanks Buzo. I've been reading your posts with interest ever since you were hired up at Hagelands. I guess you could say a Hageland's Caravan or a 406 has been something of a goal of mine. We'll see.....

Well, had you been able to ask me in Juneau, I probably wouldn't have been able to tell you much. If I wasn't on the water I was usually on a trail somewhere. There is a TON of AWESOME hiking in Juneau. I didn't get downtown much usually because it was crazy with all those cruise ship passengers, although I did get to the Twisted Fish at least once, which was rather good. Expensive, but good. In any event, I met this guy at Church who always had get-togethers at his house on Sunday nights. He was a commercial fisherman and there were always LOADS of salmon for dinner. Gotta love that....

In any event, I'm planning on making Alaska a year-round permanent position. Yeah, I know, thats crazy coming from a guy from Florida!! I'll be out in Port Alsworth for about 3.5 months, maybe longer, and then probably in Anchorage. So yeah, look me up, and we'll figure something out, although right now I'm pretty sure Chris has the inside track on some mad-crazy tailwheel action. August, right Chris?
