Oh gawd

Man. I absolutely love my GTI and don't think I will own anything else for quite some time. They're simply awesome little cars. Maybe not in the same league as BMW but definitely German. I've had zero problems with any of them save a clutch that needed replacing at 130K.

I went for the basic Golf instead of a GTI and I’m always amazed at how good it is. Drive across town or 4 hours on the highway and it’s fine. The only other car I’d consider in that class is Mazda 3, but they don’t have anything GTI-like either. I test drove a Kia after the VW and there was just no way.

Nothing drives like a German car. The others get close, but never quite there.

Unless is IS a train wreck, and you can keep it that way without seeming too fake of a train wreck. People like to watch train wrecks that don't knew they are train wrecks.

See: a large part of the "Real Housewives" shows, most of Bravo and E! network programming, etc.

I owned an '02 MKIV GTI 337 Wolfsburg. LOVED that car. Reflashed the ECU, k&n cold air intake. It was seriously zippy and handled so well. I miss it so much, but after about 12 years it was starting to become mx intensive and it no longer made economic sense to keep it.

Nowadays, I'd love to own another GTI, but I don't want a four door GTI. If VW ever makes a two door GTI again I will be in the hunt.

I had a GTI and really liked it except for the wheel hop and lack of traction with just the FWD and my wife thought it looked too much like a "boy racer" car. The "R" solved all that for me. I do all the work on it myself including routine mx like oil changes, Haldex and DSG services, brake pads etc...

I took the JB4 tuner off my GTI prior to selling it and installed it on my Golf R which made the car feel like it should've felt coming out of the factory. I like, among other things, is it looks like a sleeper and most folks don't realize how quick and fast it is until you pass them up. It's probably pumping out 350hp and AWD with no wheel slip. I added a K&N filter but it would occasionally throw a code with the JB4 so I went back to the stock paper filter....no more code. Great all around DD hot hatch!

Sorry for the thread derailment. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.....

@Adler I see your Fiesta and raise you Maui’s northwest shore: View attachment 51569
I wish they were still making those. Wife and I went to Munich in the fall and rented a 3 Cyl 1.0L Turbo Fiesta. Went into it with low/no expectations and really came away enjoying it. Definitely not the same Fiesta that I test drove when they first brought them back to the US when the economy was in the toilet.

The ST is a very different car than the stock Fiesta. Plus, while living local, I brought mine to Mountune.

In 2014 the Fiesta ST won:

California sucked, but LA's budget deficiencies resulted in no legal speed limit on the majority of roads. Living close the what's said to be the best drivers road in North America, didn't suck either.
