Just got my grades..

Abnormal Psychology: A

Intro to Sociology: B

Humanities: B

Effective Oral Communication: B (no jokes people :p)


All the other classes were pretty much cake..but Abnormal Psych was hard.. that class was totally kicking my ass all semester. I was really expecting a D, or worse. I'd definitely diagnose some of you in here with antisocial personality disorder, and paranoid personality disorder! :p

Anyway, I literally screamed when I saw my grade..so glad no one was around to view. Jtrain caught me drunk once and I said something at that NJC that he still never lets me live down! :D

This has been a good first year back at school..it totally sucks being 22 >cough< 32 and going back to school, while working FT. Kids, go to college while you're young..don't try this while flying a 50, 70 or now possibly a 90 seat jet for crap wages and being stuck in the hotel doing work while your crew is out having fun.

One step closer to the psychology degree with a minor in social work. After that nursing school. But one step at a time...

Congrats!!! It's especially nice when you have worked so hard.

But I remember when my DW went back for her MBA in her 40's she said that adult learners focus on what's important. They filter out all the extraneous stuff. She graduated with a 4.0 at age 45. So, welcome to the world of the adult learner!
 
Congrats! I know what that feeling feels like. Except with French...which I thought I was failing but apparently pulled an A. Who needs French anyway...
 
Great work!! I was wondering why you don't just go straight to nursing school unless you wanted to get those other degrees, too. I'm an RN but did the college thing right after HS. So I'm kinda doing the reverse & trying to get my ratings now while in my 30's.

That's what my aunt told me too..she just retired from the state as a nurse last year.

Problem is that the state just cut funding to it's state universities for nursing, so they're not admitting as many people to their schools of nursing. As such it is as long as a 5-7 semester waiting list.

So far the plan is to get my BA psychology, then nursing school. My cousin is a behavioral health nurse for Banner hospitals here in PHX. He says that post graduation I can work at a Banner hospital and they'll pay for my RN degree. I really want to be a Psychiatrist nurse.

Then I want to go to grad school and become a clinical nurse. My abnormal psych professor just recently got her PH.D and it sounds like a lot of work.. My stepfather has his PH.D in school psychology. He just got laid off due to the recession, and is considering now going to the clinical side. However he just told me the other day that the license is $15k. Yow!

He told me that my plan sounds like a good one. He said don't count out getting a PH.D in psychology however. He said that doing the clinical nurse things sounds good. He say nurses tend to only work 3 days a week and 12 hour shifts. He said if I get the PH.D in psychology, that I could open my own part time practice and with the nursing career and my own practice at my leisure I can get hella paid..

Temping, very..but lets just graduate with a BA first and go from there, lol!

If you have any suggestions or career advice..I'm definitely listening! :)
 
My wife is in behavioral health. Psych nurses earn more than therapists. Depending upon where you are, you could really capitalize on this. For example, she tells me in Maryland, they need to have a "nurse" in their partial program (day treatment, intensive outpatient treatment). So they look for someone who can do that on top of something else since they really don't need a nurse hanging around all day doing nothing. The Ph.D is a lot of work, but you could get a Masters in SW or Counseling. Then you get licensed and you're good to go. Of course this is all on top of the nursing degree, which should probably be a Masters as well.

You're right..however I'm often told that when it comes to nursing and even psychology the money is to be made on the east coast.

For some reason people in those professions earn far less out west. Not sure why?

So, definitely post school looking at maybe moving somewhere back east..
A clinical nurse as I'm sure you know is much akin to a therapist. I'd however need to get my master of science in nursing (MSN) to go the clinical route.

You're right about the Ph.D being a lot of work which is what greatly interest me in the clinical nursing field.
