Oh, American......... v.wtf

It seems someone has figured out how to hack into the interphones on at least a couple of AA airplanes and make obnoxious noises that sound like something between a moan and a grunt. If it's being done locally, there's only one place where a pax could do this with any sort of privacy - the lavs. If someone has figured out how to do this remotely from somewhere else other than onboard, uh oh.

If you go to the Twitter links in the article, you can watch video of it happening.

“American Airlines inspected the Boeing 737-800 as well as the P.A. system itself after these reports. They tell me that maintenance “determined the sounds were caused by an issue with the PA amplifier. There was no external access to the system.” A malfunctioning P.A., along with other non-critical electronic systems, on an A321 would not surprise me either.”

I seem to remember their being an audio connect point in the overhead bin of some 737s back the day - that still a thing?

Freight is great. I mean you hear a lot of the same noises, but you can see that it's the crusty old 64 1/2 year old deadheading C/A who is trying to clip the fungus off his ratclaw toenails (and does not give any craps about you seeing it), which makes it way less disconcerting.

There were no “Ahoys!” in that video… it couldn’t have been you.
Unfortunately I never knew how to hack PAs at work, or that it was possible LOL. Just stuck with whatever random radio I had to play with. Back in High School though, I did figure out the freqs used by various entities at the school using a scanner and there are stories about that. Though I mostly used it as an early warning system. Always wanted to figure out how to hack some of the school PA's that were relayed between buildings, but never managed to. Probably for the better of society.

"Don't cast this as we 'lost' slots," Raja wrote. "We didn't use all of our slots for years to the point that no one knew our true baseline."

That's actually worse, you can see how that's worse right?

I guess he's also a Russian military strategist too!
