Officially Winter

any opinions on this thing? it does LOOK cool... i know little about it though, other than its toyota, and i tend to approve of toyota products.

They're basically the toyota equivalent to the H2, err maybe more like the H3, unfortunatly. Could have been better. At least they aren't huge and don't suck down gas. They have the same affect as the H3 though in that it's really mostly show and no go.

i hate that guy. i always instinctively hit the brakes and hide the booze when i see him.

(:sarcasm: on the booze part, god i hope i didnt have to spell that one out.)

I don't how it's happend, but I've had to creep up on that guy twice on my way back up here from home. It's a 9 hour drive from eastern Iowa to Grand Forks, what are the chances that I get to him around Minneapolis within about a 15 minute window two different times. :)

Speaking of winter starting, Doc Martens+"ice"=teh suck!!!!:D

adidas sambas + compacted snow / refreeze = teh suck as well.

yeah lets plow the roads and parking lots to where theres about a half inch of snow and slush left so when it gets packed down it makes a great skating surface!!

Snow removal is completely non-existant here. The other thing I don't understand is why they put sand down when it's cloudy. Sand only works when the sun is out. :insane:

maybe for a bit of traction? not sure. id take 2 inches of fluffy snow over the glaze ice crap they create by scraping the roads.

I don't understand that at all. They leave a thin layer of snow on the sidewalks to where a thin layer of ice forms... had they left it alone in the first place I'd have a nice few inches of snow which is MUCH easier to walk on than ice. I always end up walking where the grass is or on the sides of the road...rather than the sidewalk... in order to avoid having to use the costly monthly health insurance plan I pay for so that Alerus does not rape me for $800 just to walk in and say "hi!"

I like when there's ice and it is super cold, then a light snow storm comes through and now you have extremely fluffy snow barely hanging onto the ground covering the ice. That makes for interesting walks. I seen to always fall down real bad at least once a year around the bridge on university. haha

The alerus center sucks. It cost 400 dollars for 5 stiches in my thumb when I cut the crap out of it with a box cutter. I'm not sure if that's high or not. I know it wasn't even a hundred when I had my hands checked out a few years ago when I thought I broke them, incuding exrays. Sprained hands suck ass! :)

Well if they really dump it down, it does add some traction where it still resembles snow. The main purpose of sand is to heat up in the sun and melt the ice and snow in sub-zero temps, since salt doesn't work below 0*. That's my understanding at least. I could be wrong.

dude, get some super glue and just glue the wound shut. totally not even kidding either.

salt also totally ####ing ruins your car.

Ouch, that would sting a little. :D I'm normally the guy you'd maybe see on a construction site that cuts their arm and bandages it with duct tape and keeps working or gets shot in the shoulder and just says it's flesh wound. However, when my entire thumb and part of my hand instantly went numb hitting it with a brand new box cutter I figured I had better get it checked out. ;)

salt is used to just melt the ice and it works down to about -10 degrees. Sand is used as a alternate because it does not melt the ice but rather giver you traction and cuts the ice into a rigid and raspy surfcace so that when you drive you get better traction. ND uses Sand because its cheaper and well salt kill crops!!! MN still likes using the slat but soon they wont be anymore. there ya go.

I laid down salt in front of my garage to prevent the ice from building up - like last year when the garage door was frozen shut. That morning I was half hour late to class. Had to figure out ways to chip the ice from underneath - since all the good good tools were in the garage, I ended up taking a barbell from my apartment :D

It's just sad to see a 1999-2001 car with rust all over it. Very sad. It seems that people here tend to not take care of there cars, but some do. You'll see some 1980's cars with no rust - those people washed there cars often to get the salt off/ice off and kept the paint waxed.

My 87 blazer was imacculate. Washing your car at least twice a month will suffice at preventing rust. In cars that use quality metals at least. Hell my car is one of those GM platforms known for rusting out real bad, but mine has very minimal rust from keeping it clean. It's really not that hard to do. I'm not sure a lot of people don't do this. Granted, most people aren't car enthusiasts and probably don't care.

How come you are such a walking, talking, ad for Mercedes lately?

I just love it, its history, passion, and innovation, I can go on and on, but read some stuff about them, they have a memoabilia of their history and cars on sale at barnes and noble if not just wikipedia or google them.

The argument of driving a truck and it being insecurity is total BS. You can’t honestly believe that. What is the difference between buying a fast car or a big truck? If you’re not going to be driving in Germany any time a sports car is kind of pointless. Now if you are commuting in a city to your job at Starbucks in a pick-up truck that is pointless as well. So what it boils down to is that if you buy a nice expensive vehicle and don’t use it the way it was meant to be used for you apparently have some kind of insecurity. Sounds ridiculous, this means that people who drive nice vehicles have insecurities. That’s BS as well. The only way I think a person has insecurity and has a vehicle is if they can’t afford the high priced vehicle they are buying.
Most people in the Midwest buy trucks for function not for show. Hockey moms drive trucks and SUV’s because the only other option is a mini-van and well soccer moms have those. I also couldn’t image pulling a boat or snowmobiles with a Subaru. I have seen it and those people don’t look happy they are thinking man I wish I had a truck. Also can you imagine driving around in North Dakota with a deer on the roof of you car. Bet your hunting friends will love that.

just get a mercedes ML problem solved, luxury, elegance, style, comfort, safety, beauty. all in one.

I'm a different kind of car enthusiast. I'm more for performance and function or weight adding comfort and luxury. However, I will own a Mercedes 190E with the 2.3 liter Ford Cosworth 16valve engine someday. Those are friggen sweet!
