Officially Winter

Straight axels>Independant suspension. Maybe not for handling on the road. But for rock crawling or driving on extremely uneven terrain, towing, and hauling, straight axels for the win!

Along with drag racing... :) straight axles plant the power better.

You know, some people drive trucks because they like them. It really has nothing to do with any "insecurities" as a couple of you so allege.

but what would make someone "enjoy" a truck if they dont need hauling capacity, ground clearance, or towing capacity????

if you just want a compliant boompty smooshy ride, get a crown vic.

Which I don't have a problem with. What I do have a problem with is most people that buy trucks just to have trucks immediately complain about the ride, lack of features, lack of passenger room, etc. Next thing you know we have these bastardizations on the the road that are barely more capable than a damn van. You used to be able to buy a half ton that could tow 9000 pounds. Now you have to buy the super heavy duty trucks to do that. It's not a drive train limit either. It's the suspension. It's so damn soft now because these pandsies can't take the ride that you're tongue weight limit goes down the crapper. Put the Duramax diesel and allison transmission in an old 70s ford, chevy or studdabaker, and I bet you could tow 20,000 pounds. Case point, trucks are becoming this way for one soul reason. People are insecure enough that they must compensate by towering over everybody on the road, but don't want to put up with driving a vehicle that has almost unlimited utilitarian purposes, so they bitch about it to dealers, which goes to the manufacturer, which then goes to the guys designing them and progressively each generation becomes nothing more than a van with bigger tires.

You know, if you need an extended cab truck with an 8 foot bed, you have to order it now? STUPID!!!!!! It's not Ford, Dodge, or Chevy's fault either.

It's sad that when I ride in my friends trailblazer, the ride is smoother than my friggen cutlass ciera old lady car. That is NOT how a truck or SUV is supposed to be designed, and their extremely reduced capability is a result of this.

I'm not saying it should ride like it has no suspension at all, but it sure as hell should be stiff enough to be able to go off road(not soft roading), have descent payload, and towing capacity.

I've always wanted to buy an ex-police-cruiser at a car auction :D it'd be so much fun to make a stunt driving film...with some sort of crazy cops and robbers plot and story.

Haha, me too. There's something about black crown vics and mercury marauders that are just cool. There's a kid on campus driving around in an ex-squad car. I want it!

I think the only decent off-roading SUVs/4x4's available brand new now are the Land Rover Discovery, Mercedes G-Wagen, Mercedes Unimog, and of course the Jeep Wrangler. All of the above have locking diff's and rigid axles... even the Toyota Landcruiser is a decent off-roading vehicle other than it's front independent suspension disadvantage (for off-roading obviously)...but at least the Landcruiser has a locking center diff.

...even my parent's 4-wheel independent suspension M-Classes are good vehicles for the light off-roading we do like this seen here and here and here. At least they have low-range and an active locking differential...but still ain't no rockcrawler. I wish I had some better pictures of some crazy stuff my dad does in his...like one wheel way up in the air with the other side inches from a boulder... I have a video somewhere of that. Obviously you won't be using it on the Rubicon, but my dad's friend has taken his ML320 on some portions of the Rubicon and removed the front and rear bumpers ...along with lots of body damage :D

Haha well they are nice but you better have good credit and alot of knowledge on how to maintain and fix engine and tranny components. I youst to have one and I loved it but it ate gas like it was nothing and when things did break down they were expensive and sometimes scomplicated. also you had to use 91 octane gas which can be pricey for the 19 to 16 gallon tank in the tacoma depending on the year.

It's not luxury, it's a work horse. People tend to turn it into a fashion show. That is what's annoying.

Why does it annoy you so much? What do you care what other people spend their money on?

The only reason it annoys me is LOTs of people do that very thing. What does any business do? They cater to their biggest market as much as possible. The result is basically completely worthless half ton trucks and SUVs. You might as well just lumb midsize SUVs with vans now.
