Off-Airport Landing

Thanks very much, everyone!!

@SpiraMirabilis: That sounds great. What do you fly out there?
@sdfcvoh: I'm working on getting the ATC clips (from LiveATC) on YouTube. I pretty much verbalized my entire though process. I also had to send a detailed report to the FAA, including my thoughts. I can post/PM that if you wish!

300 AGL with no suitable options. That's a hell of a serious predicament. Thanks for sharing the recording and really glad everything worked out.

Good job man!

Awesome! I always see you guys, Ameriflight, and one other out there. How do you like that route? I fly into MAF Saturday afternoon and return to Houston the next day. Rinse and repeat for Monday-Tuesday.

And again, thanks everyone. I feel so blessed to be here today!

Whoa - sounds like you were in control the entire time. So happy you ended up safe. Good job mate!

great job!!! I had to do that once as well . . . pretty much sucks when that happens, but way to keep your wits, and put the plane down .. . in my log book, i just put the LAT/LONG!!! And in remarks, put. . off field landing!!

Good times . . . I did the same thing as you, I put my "experience" on Youtube with ATC as well.. .

Good job...that's awesome.

Now the more pressing matter: WHY did the Grandma get arrested? We would really like to know! :laff:

Your recording can be used towards emergency flight lessons. Excellent way to remain calm in such dangerous situation. God bless you!

I love the controller:
"cleared direct to the field."

Ah geeze, thanks, I was just planning on holding here until I was cleared. :insane:

I'm also surprised that she never confirmed SOB's but good work calling and directing the police heli. Glad it all worked out. I don't think I'd say too much until the FAA/NTSB is done doing what they do.

Wow, I'm very impressed with how calm and collected you were throughout the whole thing!

Cheers!

Yeah, I got a chuckle from that as well. It's her job to sound calm, cool, and collected, but I'm sure there's always a bit of stress from their end when something like this happens. There were some times I went "poop-mouthed" (as I like to call it), so I forgive her if she did too. She did a great job with me and I'm very thankful for her help with getting the copter there so quickly and being so willing to give me anything I needed.

Luckily, the NTSB will not be involved since it is not technically an "accident."
