Last week I took the OCVT and MFT and received a LOE for a First Class Medical. How I got here or my flying history really doesn't matter, but after 12 years of flying I failed the color vision portion of my recent 1st class medical. Paperwork to the FAA as well as scheduling the tests took about a month so don't think it can be done in a hurry!
Other recollections of this test are spot on if you search this website, another pilot posted a great writeup that I referenced in getting ready for these tests. You have to nail the light gun signals, read colored text and identify colors on a VFR chart, identify colors and text in the cockpit, and identify colors and lights outside as you do a short flight. Really there were no surprises, you either see the colors or you dont. If you have to take this test, go in to it relaxed and confident.
