question is... what doess the h2ad stand for? i've never flown a 172n until the other day and i can't seem to find what h2ad really stands for/means.

My understanding is that it's the engine manufacturers code..... But my understandings are occasionally incorrect.

Riot....

The H2AD portion of the engine model number that denotes the suffix and generally describes the accessory case configuration, power section rating/configuration, counterweight configuration, dual magnetos...etc. It's usually not important for folks to know exactly what the H2AD part means....it's the configuration code for the engine.

Not to be picky, but it's O320H2AD, not O360, in the C172N. I used to own one. It went well over TBO and never caused me any problems.
