NWA\'s CEO Richard Anderson Resigns

Just got the morning paper here in Minneapolis and it is on the front page. He is taking a top job at UnitedHealth. It's not on the oneline version yet, will post the link later.

Re: NWA\'s CEO Richard Anderson Resigns

My first thought was Richard Dean Andersen. You know, "MacGyver?"

Re: NWA\'s CEO Richard Anderson Resigns

And he's from Minnesota, too, isn't he?

Good thing he's gotten rid of that hockey hair, eh?

Re: NWA\'s CEO Richard Anderson Resigns

THe guy is leaving the troubled times of NWA and going to UnitedHealth as the oprobable #3 man. Guess what the total compensation was for the number 1 man at UnitedHealth last year...........

Bling, Bling , $94.(something) million that's right people 94million+. Just a little better than the airlines.

And people wonder why health care costs are so out of control. What could a CEO *possibly* do to be worth that much? Bring in more business? Demand for health care is inelastic, as we've discussed. Cut labor costs? Please, there's a nationwide nursing shortage as it is.

politics, politics, and politics. They already cut the labor cost on me. I made less than 1st FO at every regional airlines right now on hourly rate. I am wondering why? That is before tax and benefits...etc.

Re: NWA\'s CEO Richard Anderson Resigns

Actually, Anderson is originally from Texas (Galveston, I think) but has been a Minnesota resident for many years. No doubt he'll make more money in health care than in the airline business. Hopefully NWA will now reconsider Anderson's anti-GA crusade at MSP.

Re: NWA\'s CEO Richard Anderson Resigns

He's not even going to be the CEO. He's going to be an EVP or something like that.

I could be wrong, but I think the anti-GA crusade at MSP predates Anderson--I remember hearing stuff like that way back when Checci was in charge, and the MAC seems in favor of keeping GA out of MSP.

Though, from what I can see as an outsider (and somewhat frequent NW traveler) Anderson did a pretty good job running things.

It may have predated Anderson, but since 9/11 and all of the cost cutting, it has really intensified. They are trying like crazy to pass along some of the costs to the feeder airports; one of which I train out of. Nothing has really happened yet, but it will be interesting to see. I would bet that AOPA may step up some lobbying now that ANderson has left. They may try and swing the new CEO in the other direction.

Re: NWA\'s CEO Richard Anderson Resigns

Only problem is the new guy is Doug Steenland, who has been Anderson's right arm all along. I suspect not much will really change ... which is generally good news for NWA since it is in fairly good shape by Big Six standards (a pretty low standard, granted) but probably bad news as far as the MAC dispute goes. Oh well, we can hope.

BTW, Mat, I hope you're enjoying your travels. You missed a heck of a good time in Vegas, but as a flashback ...

"Guys, is that a real ^*(^(&*% moose??"
