NVG training

Who does your companies NVG training? We are looking to implement a NVG program where I work, and we are trying to decide if we should do it "in house" or outsource the training. There are two pilots who are qualified as NVG instructors, as per FAR's, but have never actually put together a program or done any training that I am aware of. I myself have no NVG time, so I know nothing about them, and want to be sure we are getting the best training we can, while trying to stay within budget.

What about the option of sending your two NVG instructors to the training and having them learn how to put together a program, then doing it in house as a third option?

May end up with that! They have been calling around different departments and have gather training materials and put together a quasi-training manual, so I guess we'll see! I just want to make sure we are doing this the "right" way. I feel like NVG's are not something you can just strap on and head out flying as usual.

You are correct. They can be a great tool especially in law enforcement and civilian medflight, but it is a different type of flying or perhaps I should say different visual cues. The Army spent years and a great deal of money and lives "perfecting" NVG training (it's never a "perfect" product). When the Navy started using NVGs they tried to reinvent the wheel and... killed a bunch of flight crews in the process.
Good luck- I hope the transition to them works out.

I'm not sure where you're at but I know Longhorn Helicopters out of Denton, TX does NVG training in both S300C and B206. Not sure on there rates though.

I am in Tn, so itd prob be a little too pricey to sent the whole unit out there. I appreciate the info though! I think we are going to try the "in house" route, and see how it comes along
