Not so great American Eagle interview...lack there of actually

Strongly suspect overqualification issue as well. They want people who are going to be excited about languishing in the right seat of an RJ for years. That's not necessarily a bad thing to be, but I would suspect that it's not you.

Here's my issue. WHY even call somebody in for an interview knowing they are WAAY over qualified only to set them up to tell them no?

Wouldn't they have caught the whole "overqualified" thing just by looking at his résumé? I mean he said the rest of the interview wasn't that hot, so it's not like they saw his skills and went "nope, get outta here. Too good."

Well I find that HR brings people in regardless of whatever nonsense reasoning the pilots come up with to get rid of you. I had a guy here at Mesaba that went to the Virgin interview the first time to sit down and get kicked out after 5 min because he didn't have jetPIC time. HR thought he was qualified (and he more than met the mins) but the CP or assis. CP made up something new that day. The second interview got cancelled (took leave of absence for) and they wanted him to just call in sick for his next trip to fly himself back to another interview. He declined, they said he must not want it enough, and now that guy is at Atlas (his first choice).

You're going to get yanked around in this industry, over a long enough time line it seems to equal out.

Been denied a job one day....but read the following..,

Got another job in another company(not in aviation)a few days later.

Few days later the company where I have been denied called me. They call directly the company where I was and asked me to pick up the phone.... . They found where I was working.maybe a friend of mine told them...

They asked me to come asap to work for them and quit my new company because the guy they have hired instead of me couldn't use autocad program....

Of course, I told them it was too late and I was happy where I was ....they insist....I said" no I can not, you denied me, too late;sorry"
.we had an interview , they told me I was to expensive(I fix my salary),and it was finished for me.

These guys think they can treat you like dirt and then one day they come back to you begging for you to come because they find nobody.

A guy in USA told me one day , in usa you don't need to beg for a job.

F...them....!

I think RAH gets the dunce cap for HR. Two HR people from RAH called to schedule me for an interview, on two separate days. A buddy at USAirways got a call for an interview, he's been there four months.

I really don't believe that a company would fly a pilot out for an interview, if he or she were not qualified. Virgin America is a little odd, and their two HR ladies are unreadable. They understand PIC, SIC, and ILS, however the only way to determine if the answer to their TMAAT question was a good one, is to look at the pilots reaction. Also at VX it's all about timing. One week, they hired eight out of 10, the following week they hired two from nine. I read somewhere that ten pilots showed up, and no one was hired from that group.

They're also a little gun shy lately too with training failures. It's a PIC type, and they only give you one crack at it.

Republic had their stuff together when I went there on Thursday, a bit more professional as well.

So my buddy and fellow Navy pilot interviewed with American Eagle today. He made it further than me but was not selected and again, was not told why. I mentioned him before, he has 4000+ hours, 2500+ PIC hours, primarily in the S-3B Viking, T-45C Goshawk and C-12A. He already interviewed with Skywest and was hired by them. Is it norm for pilots not to be told why they were not hired?

Giving a reason would be just asking for a lawsuit, so no, don't think that is likely.

If there was, I'm sure it would be something vague like "did not fit in with company culture" or "lacks enthusiasm for the position."

There are some employers I work with that avoid military folk, as they don't like the prospect of them getting called back up (and they know they can't ask about the likelihood of that). These are the same places that won't hire women that may become pregnant.

Yeah, it's normal. I didn't get hired by Continental, World, Horizon, Horizon, Henson, and Comair. I didn't get hired at NPA and Simmons, either, but they said I didn't have enough multi time (only places that told me why). I did get hired at a Convair operation cause I wore white socks to the interview (long story), got hired at WestAir (turned them down) and UPS (stayed). It's a crapshoot. Don't take it personal and don't ask why. Just keep on keeping on until you reach your career goals.

My question was about not being told why, not being hired. I get not getting hired, I'm confused about not telling someone why. I have been military for 20 years, I almost always knew where I stood and why....except when I didn't make O-5 (board doesn't tell you though it's much easier to guess why). He only went to AE after what happened to me, he was curious. I have interviewed for 3 companies, been hired by 2, turned down by US Airways and 2 other private companies so I'm not taking anything personal lol

Well bunk, you are too old maybe.!?

They want guys staying long term, you must be young and very motivated.

Were you excited when you saw these canadair?
Did you ask questions, did you show your motivation, will you give everything you have in your life for them?

One question they ask sometimes is" did you apply somewhere else? "

Just the way it is in the industry. I've never heard of anyone who wasn't hired at a corporate or 121 airline flying job ever be explicitly told why they were not hired.
