oh no worries Keith, I'm already getting that kind of story... it's like pulling teeth to get any juicy gossip anymore much less any "how was your trip, whatdya do, whereya go, whatdya eat" stories at all...We're working on that tho cuz it's pretty boring when he comes home and it was just the "same ol same ol" and when there's nothing to tell, sometimes, there really is something to tell IMHO. I've heard more "good" stories than you can shake a stick at and ignorance is not always bliss....so i'd rather not be ignorant and just enjoy the straight poop...as long as it isn't or doesn't become my poop, then there's no affect on my digestive tract.
Kristie,
Why do I see a Lojack in Doug’s immediate future?
Really, all kidding aside, you know what my take is on that kind of thing?
When I lived in The Netherlands and Germany my life was contracting. Even with all of the years Doug has worked at the airlines I think that I have still conceivably spent more time in hotels in foreign lands, simply due to the fact that when I was on a contract I was usually away for weeks of months at a time without returning home, all of that time usually spent in hotels. Perfect example, as we were on the subject of Malaga, I recall that I had to spend over 11 days straight over there due to a defective link we could not get to work.
Anyway, I only bring this out because during my world travel as a contract I was in relationships during a good part of it; First with my Dutch ex-girlfriend, and then later with Anita.
Both of them had very similar philosophies about my time spent in hotels, in some wild areas sometime, in some wild countries sometime. Both of them concluded “I’m not going to worry about it,” and it made perfect sense to them and to me. They both felt that if I was going to do any dirty dealing it wouldn’t matter if I was hold up in some hotel in Malaga, Berlin, London, or Prague……..(Well, maybe not Prague, that is some serious temptation! :drool
Same thing applies to pilots as well, whether they are flying domestic or international. If they are going to double deal they are going to double deal. Wouldn’t matter if they were making daily flights into Bangkok, or if they were working in a simulator complex and were never more than a mile away from home. It comes down to the person, not the situation, IMHO.
As far as the interesting stories you were mentioning, I have gone through all of that as well. As a contractor you will always work with other contractors, and not all of them were in relationships, and many that were did not share my values. That being said I got to watch all of the “Going Ons” of the panty marauder brigade. Did I always talk a lot about it once I got back home? Not really, after awhile it was the same old story. I wasn’t trying to keep it to myself, or be secretive about it, it just wasn’t that interesting.
In fact, a lot of my conversation regarding work was very similar to what you described. I would often say “Yeah, same old same old,” because in all actuality that’s what it was, whether I had worked in some new, and perceived exciting and exotic, location. I was all just work, and it was just always just another place to be. What is often deemed cool and exciting to others is often just another day at the job for the person there.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong
i tend to think it's a good idea *not* to play "how the tables turn" cuz everything is circular, as in what goes around comes around (dontcha think Keith?) I mean there's no reason to ask for fire unless you really wanna be burned since it's well known that it's just a matter of time before you get burned by that fire

I have read through that more then five times now, and I have no idea what the hell you just said!! :laff:
