Not Cool JetBlue. Not. Cool.

Same thing is happening over here. LH group and the other big players (except BA/IB) are taking the anti-ME3 stance while the EY/QR owned carriers (AB, AZ, IAG) fight them. It should be interesting to see what happens.

I'm surprised though, LH owns a portion of Jet Blue do they not? I would expect them to be less than happy.

Interesting the comments in that article are all in support of JB. Don't know if any are from persons with any stake in the game though, on either side of the aisle.

"If they cannot handle the competition, let them go follow Braniff."

Ouch...

I just find it amusing as hell that American has been really careful to make no mention of the fact that Qatar is in OneWorld.

And, it's a good thing for pilots to have JVs reviewed every few years. If Delta takes over Boston like they are threatening to, how much of the international flying will be on their metal and how much will be on Virgin Atlantic? Scope creep is happening more on the top end (through code share and JV) than the bottom end with RJs.

I'm not sure what's "not cool" about a request that JVs be reviewed every 3-5 years. I'd think as long as things were on the up and up, the Legacies wouldn't care at all. Meets the requirements, there's no collusion and no anti-trust violations, have at it. We'll see you again in a few years. I seem to remember Delta guys grumbling a few years ago about how they're losing all this flying to Air France because of a codeshare. Now it seems like they're rushing to defend the very thing that cost them flight hours. I figure the goal of the pilot groups would be to get as much flying on THEIR OWN metal as possible. JVs do the exact opposite of that. I don't have a problem with our codeshare with Emirates. We're not ever gonna be flying to the Middle East (despite the persistent rumors that we're starting JFK-Tel Aviv ANY DAY NOW in our brand new A330s!!!!). However, don't get me started on how we missed the boat on Brazil and the whole Azul thing. I could even see the codeshare with Hawaiian biting us in the rear, too. But, hey, there's an island somewhere with a paved runway we don't service yet. Let's go there.

FWIW, a big wig at American did address that a few weeks ago. I don't have the exact wording on what he said, but it was addressed

I am seeing it as a give and take honestly. No way we are going to fly IAH to IST, but with the Star Alliance those passengers that want to go from IST to LAS can easily connect through IAH to do so. We have started IAH-MUC, added a second IAH-NRT, and have bolstered some other destinations and routes with our partnership with the Star Alliance. We also have pretty strong international scope language and a great working relationship within the ASAP (Association of Star Alliance Pilots). Yes, it is a HUGE threat. Much bigger than outsourced RJ flying, but we are pretty on top of it and there are some HUGE benefits to these agreements at well.

Extraordinarily short sighted.

What happens if Emirates gets their wet dream and starts JFK to LHR service? Your place then decides to code share on that route. Wouldn't it be better if you guys grew internally, getting wide-bodies to fly than having ALL of it outsourced? Yes, I know they do give you guys some domestic feed, but unlike the Star Alliance or Sky Team where there is a coordination on who flies what internationally to allow for efficiencies that trickles down to the pilots at Delta and United. You guys get none of the benefits of having a wide body on your pay scale.

Also, you guys are benefiting from a business model (the subsidies Emirates gets from the government over there) that isn't fair to the current Open Skies agreement.
