Northwestern Michigan College Aviation Program

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone knows anything about the aviation program at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, MI. It looks to be a good program, but I'd like some advice if anyone knows about it at all. I am debating between NMC and Eastern Michigan University Aviation. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks =]

Hey Man, I lived in Ann Arbor/Ypsi and went to NMC in Traverse City. I have nothing but high praise for NMC. I doubt it gets any better. In addition to the ordinary ratings, you can get a tailwheel endorsement, fly aerobatics with either a current airshow pilot or a former F-15 pilot, get a seaplane rating with instructors who've made careers in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, fly a high-performance turbocharged twin in icing conditions with full de-ice equipment, and enjoy some of the best scenery in the country. If you are a veteran, they are savvy to all the GI Bill stuff. If you have any questions you can message me. Also, I put a write up on this section of the boards when I was starting there. I highly recommend NMC. Excellent instructors, excellent fleet, excellent maintenance, excellent office manager/ dispatch/ line crew. Shoot, I wish I were still a student! Also, there are no restrictions to where you go on your commercial cross-countries. They encourage you to challenge yourself and explore.

I highly recommend this college as well. I visited while looking at schools in Michigan; and the Grand Traverse area, is one of the most beautiful in our state. As buzzin stated, they are more "real world" than other aviation colleges. Take WMU for example. They tote that you will fly in all the seasons just a real pilot would. False. WMU ops shut down for the better part of the winter because they aren't equipped for it. I will be doing some of my training with NMC when the time comes. On a side note, I know a few corporate pilots, flying Gulfsreams, that got their multi ratings in that beast of a twin they have up there. They had nothing but good things to say about the operation up in Traverse.

Thanks for the replys, I really do appreciate it! Sounds like you guys both love it which makes me want to go there even more. I just sent in my application today. Good to know that there are pilots out there who have had experience with this school. I have heard the same things about WMU as well. When I contacted NMC, they told me that 100% of their grads have found jobs in cockpits within 6 months of graduation, which really impressed me! The seaplane and aerobatics sounds awesome! Looking forward to moving up there in the fall

Good Luck! Traverse is a nice place to live, and the rest of the school outside of the aviation department is good, too. You're gonna love it.
