Nonrev with baby.

So my wife and I had a baby back in May and she wants to meet me in NY the end of the month. Obviously the baby isnt on the flight benefits but does it matter being a lap child? Is this even possible?

You should be able to add your newborn to flight benefits pretty much right away. I know my airline does that and then in Myidtravel you can click both the mom and newborn's name and buy just one ZED ticket for the mom and the infant is lap child.

He was born 3 months ago and open enrollmemt is closed. Are we boned?
You never know until you try calling the HR or whoever deals with that at your shop
But being a lap child (which sucks btw. I brought the carrier along nonrevving and got the extra seat on all flights but one) it might not matter. Pretty sure on United any eligible passrider can bring a lap child and it is just a box to check.

You shouldn't need to wait for open enrollment, a birth is a life event, in theory all that is needed is a birth certificate to add on to your flight benefits, health insurance - any time - not just open enrollment.

A birth certificate comes later and it can take a couple weeks. Usually, hospital paperwork (eg, attestation to birth) is enough to get the company to add the new baby.

Should count as a "life changing event." At our shop a life changing event means you can email HR and get the baby added for medical and travel benefits. I had my baby added to both about 3 days after birth.

Most places you have a time frame for the "life changing event". In the FAA I know it's 90 days.

My brother travelled on a buddy pass with his one yr old. Just listed him and his wife and they just listed the lap child at the ticket counter.

That's on American

Delta, they get their own PPR#. When you make the listing, you just add them as a lap child by clicking on the "special services" link.

As said above, a birth is a life change event, therefore you can get the new baby on insurance and I'd imagine flight benefits, but that may be different at each airline.
