Non-Stop vs. One Stop - Airfare Watch

So I have been watching the ticket prices from MSP to LAS. It has been bouncing between $320-$350 for non-stop. I usually check Travelocity to get an idea of the fares and then go to the specific airline website to purchase (minus) the Travelocity fee.

I logged on today and Travelocity was showing a fare of $224 on AA with a stop in Dallas. Yes, it may be a round-about way to get to LAS. So I checked the AA site and they were not even showing that fare. It was looking like $270 and that was a stop in STL or ORD.

So the question of the day if you care to answer......How much of a price difference are people willing to except to take the one-stop vs non-stop flight?

Evil consumers...always looking for the best deal for them and not caring how much havoc they wrreak in the airline industry! :sarcasm:

Nothing wrong with looking for the best price. If American wants to price their tickets like that, then so be it. If they charge more and that's the flight I want, then I would have to pay it. The consumers aren't wreaking havoc, that would be the people that are setting the prices.

I like nonstops.

Connecting always leaves the window open for misconnects, interrupted naps and a variety of other travel hassles.

I'm kinda weird, the trip to my destination is part of my destination. So, when I have time, I actually like to take an extra stop now and then so I can cruise around and check out different airports. I'm in no hurry. Plus, it allows for some food since a lot of flights now a days do not serve a whole lot.

However, if it's a bad weather day, then I will pay anything to fly direct. If it's CAVU, I have 2 weeks to get to my destination, and I want to say I've been to _____, then I may accept 1 stop. Same may go for, if I'm flying international (although then, It's usually the big iron to the continent I want to go to, and a little hopper plane to my destination).

The main point: I generally like non-stop!!!

Apparently you didn't see the ":sarcasm: " in my statement. :whatever:

Yeah, I saw the sarcasm tag. Just commenting on the thought process in general.

I go with Orbitz when I need it. Is NW your only non-stop option seeing that your coming from MSP? Check on Allegiant. They have flights from Fargo and Duluth and I hear they are pretty cheap seeing that 3 of the major casinos in town own part of them :)

NW...Nope... There is America West, Sun Country, and NW. Those are all of the $320-$350 range depending on departure/return times. Allegiant flys out of Duluth and they fly 2 days a week, they are more and I'd have to drive to Duluth from south of Minneapolis. No go......

I say go non-stop, especially to LAS. Too many chances for things to go wrong, for the flight to be oversold, etc.

I have no choice by multi-stop. I fly out of CAK (you can't get there from here airport). Once I hit the hub I usually now do a non-stop. Before 9/11 I might do a 2-3 stop flight for the bonus FF points, but the airlines don't like you doing that anymore

I never fly non-stop. I demand that my flights at some point STOP... somewhere...preferably at an airport!

didn't it sometimes work out that the round trip fare was cheaper than the one way, and people just bought the round trip and didn't show up for the flight back?

still does sometimes.

If they catch you, though, they will cancel your itinerary. For example, I missed my SFO-RDD flight when I went to my friend's wedding last month. Well, when I checked in for the RDD-SFO leg, they had cancelled the reservation but they were able to restore it.

BTW, total fare to go to Vegas is about $425 from IAD. Oh, well, what can you do?
