Non-Pilot job at Airline to Pilot Position?

I have heard that some airlines might reduce hiring mins for pilots from their employee base. Has anyone heard/done this? Thinking it might be worthwhile to get a job doing ramp or something as a networking link into a pilot slot once I get the hours. PT there while building hours might be a good thing.

Comments/Recomendations appreciated.

Thats what I am doing right now. They said for me to get my multi up over 100 and submit my resume.

I don't know how many accept less hours. Mesaba says that they don't, but there are other benefits. At Mesaba your seniority date stays with you, no matter what job you switch to. Also as a rampie you get to meet pilots and make connections that way! IT is all about NETWORKING

Whats your TT?

For a while XJT was taking internal hires with 500/100. However, I think they stopped that now that they are more or less caught up on FOs. I know a guy that's working the ramp in LIT for them that has that or a little more, but I don't think he's gotten the call yet. I think he sent in his resume about 4-5 months ago.
