No longer allowed aloud to walk the ramp.

Well the lady at the FBO (the manager) has always hated me. All the line guys like me and I've always thought of them as friends and still do. Well today I went out to walk the ramp (it's Nascar weekend here, lots of EMB120s, King Airs, ect.) and was told by some security gaurd I've never seen before that I'm no longer allowed to walk the ramp(he was obviously encoureged by the manager who was standing next to him and talking to him before I walked up). I asked if this was just for the weekend and he said no. Apartently I have become a security/saftey threat (I assume overnight, I was there last weekend with no problem) and cannot go on the ramp unless I have a plane on it(I guess the plane some how makes it safer for me to walk the ramp). Now I've been walking that ramp for four years now, and aparently I'm now not aloud back.

It really pisses me off, because I've always helped them out when they needed it and brought as much business to them as possible (actually a couple people from this site now frequent GED and buy fuel). Now all of a sudden this lady had the opertunity to keep me away from the airport, and she took it. Literally embaressed me infront of a friend (he's learning to fly I took him out to show him around the airport). Any one here have any idea what to do? Should I just submit and stay away from the airport? Can the airport manager or an elected official do anything about it?

Thanks.

At BWI, you can't walk anywhere without either an escort or a red security tag. I'm going to get one of them tags! Can you get something similar at GED?

Wow, that stinks

Unfortunately it doesn't sound like there's much you can do here. You had the top dog come down on your, and there's not much else to do in "retaliation" because after all, it IS her FBO and she didn't break any laws.

No, it's the owners FBO, who I'll have Sean give a call tommorow, he's the top dog.

BWI is a little different then GED. This airport literally has no security except for race weekend. I've been flying out of (and buying fuel from) this FBO for years now and never had a problem with it before and neither has any other person.

Blame the terrorist, when I worked at Nippon Cargo Airlines in New York, when the pilots turned 60 & had their last flight, we would go out to meet the airplane with family & friends. We would have the wife & family meet the Captain as he walked down the stairs and take a ton of photos as they would hug & kiss, a great Kodak moment. Well, as of last year, they are no longer allowed to do this and anybody going to the ramp, are checked for ID cards & go through a metal detector. Things change, big guy & it sucks.

She could have treated you with a little respect though.

Ironic thing is tommorow I'm flying with a couple guys up to Dover AFB and will be allowed to walk any where I want on the GA apron there and they'll have well over 100 planes.

If you really want to disarm her, walk into her office and engage her in a *polite, professional* discussion as to why this has happened.

If nothing else, maybe she'll tell you why she did what she did, and you can give her your reasons why you're no threat.

Tell her what you told us, about sending alot of business to her. Let her know you will ask your friends to go elsewhere

Situation sucks dude. Always beware of "five gallon men (or women) in ten gallon hats". If you can do an end run around her (via the owner) it may only piss her off more. However if the manager is a friend he may "fix" the problem for you.

Some people are petty. Tough lesson to learn, but it's true. I hope you can get your ramp priveledges back.

Many airports are slowly adopting security measures which include not allowing anyone on the ramp without an escort or a security badge. Getting a badge usually requires filling out an application and the badges are restricted to based airplane owners. Two of the airports I fly out of regularly have installed locked gates and restricted access in the last year. Supposedly it is being required now by many FBO insurers and in some cases the municipalities or airport commisions.

I am having my own issues with security here in Denver. Their latest methond of making my blood boil was this. I was locked out of my tower today and could not get back in because they started some new thing where we have to have a PIN # along with our badge. The joke of it all is that if you are willing to climb some stairs to the top of the tower you can get around the security. Security is and will remain a joke. A straight up JOKE! Don't rely on the TSA or whatever rent-a-cop to keep you safe, you have to look after your aircraft youself and keep your own eyes open.

I think we are in an age where it will be very hard to get people interested in aviation. If you can never experience being near airplanes how can you build an interest?

I agree. I'd take my business elsewhere. I'm sure there's another FBO that will take your money, and everyone elses. Tell as many friends as you possibly can. Do everything in your power to ruin that business, and encourage your friends to do the same.

Oh, and make sure she knows that you're doing it.

Come on Mike lets deploy Air America on this one!!! No young guy should be kept away from aviation. Be a first mission!!!

Yeah, we need to practice the whole "Stand By" thing....

Well I hate to say it but they are right. I guess they're just doing their jobs. It really is a shame that I can't go out there any more. And this will cut my flying time in half, but I guess it's ok, I've been spoiled with it. But they own the ramp and if they think I'm a saftey hazzard that's their decision to make.

I still thik its BS. Not like your a random guy out there wondering around. You fly out of there/give them money. You have every right IMO

It does suck that some of us unfortunate few have to suffer the consequences of some terrorists action. BTW, terrorists paid money to learn how to fly
grin.gif

So the terrorists paid money to learn to fly,
and CitationKid (or the Bank of Mom) is paying money for him to fly/learn to fly,

therefore,

CitationKid must be a terrorist.

Makes sense to me.

YOU'VE been flying out of/buying fuel from? YOU'RE flying a couple guys? No offense, but I think you're starting to believe your own press; YOU'RE not one of the FBO's customers, your PARENT is. All you are to them is a potential legal liability if allowed to roam their ramp freely. Sorry kid, but it's the price of...well, being a kid.

Well I have been buying fuel from them, after all the rental fee's I paid included fuel purchased from them. I don't know why I put that I'm flying a couple guys up. It's just that I get flamed when I say "Mom and I" and was told many times to stop mentioning my parents that I have. Now that I have, I'm getting flamed for saying I'm flying people.
