I personally prefer the more modern, conservative uniforms. I like the uniforms at ATA mainline and Continental.

Out of all the uniforms I think the 1970s ones look the best:

All's I know is the PSA flight attendant lounge was a "must see" when at LAX, back in the 80s.

God, the Human Factors class has brainwashed me. Instead of saying "Wow, 3 or 4 F/As might look hot in that outfit" my response was "Taffeta?!? Won't that burn during an in-flight fire or galley malfunction?"

Somebody wasn't thinking about a) how FAs will *work* in that uniform, or b) how it will look after being scrunched up in a roll-aboard for two days. Whoever's in the window seat is gonna get a free peepshow whenever an FA bends over to serve them a beverage. And that's not necessarily a good thing. Doug, if you have access to the FA seniority list, what's the hire date of the most junior FA?

I don't have access, but it's hard to ascertain because you can be on the bottom of the FA seniority list, but be a 1990 hire -- because of company transfers.

Some folks start out in reservations or marketing and do a stint in "In Flight" and go back, or vice versa. Whereas seniority is a lot more linear and easily definable for pilots.

Generally how it works is you pay for your new-hire uniform through payroll deductions. At AA it was about $700. If/When the company decides to do a uniform change, the new uniforms are distributed to current F/As at the company's expense. Down the road as replacement pieces or additions need to be purchased, those are paid for again by payroll deductions directly out of your paycheck.

At XJT we have a $150 uniform allowance every year. My uniform ended up costing me about $350 via payroll deduct as a new-hire. But I also had 8 uniform shirts already, so that saved me some money.

Not bad, still like REX's uniforms though (Regional Express is a Australian airline that flys Saab 340s and Metros) they wear blue denim shirts and skirts with orange scarfs. Also had the best meal I've had on an airplane, a tasty shrimp cocktale on the 45min hop from Sydney to Canberra.

the guys stuff is pretty sweet, but it makes them look more like upscale restaurant staff. i dig the womans stuff also, but i've got to agree that none of that stuff will be comfortable to work in

Thats the one I thought looked good too...but there are some nasty looking filght attendants.

However, this is conservative and not "I'm fifty-five, heres your Coke and and something for you to look at".
