NJC East Coast

it's just easier to non-rev in spring and most that would be joining us are adults out of school.... but you'll soon be out as this is your last year correct? then you will definately feel the love! haha :)

No, I'm a Spohmore in HS. haha, no annoying highschool kids at NJC! still not feeling it....:)

If you were going to go with Chicago, I'd recommend early to mid May. Before May, you'll get the spring breakers (both teachers and students) doing vacations. By the very end of May and beginning of June, kids start getting out of school and college kids start flying home. The first two weekends in May would be ideal... good weather, temperatures in the low 70's, and loads would be much better.

The only downside would be the lake temperature, since it will be down in the 60's... no beach time then. I'm not sure, but I think the beaches open on Memorial Day anyways.

Per room, I think you'll find a rate of about $100-$150 a night downtown at most places. Some higher-end hotels are more expensive. With four people per room, hotel at $150 per night x 3 nights / 4 people = $112.50 per person for the weekend. If we could get cheaper rooms, even better. Trains from each airport like I said are not very expensive. Plus, we can get from downtown to the upscale and fun Wrigleyville to start at Addison (Wrigley Field) to walk down Clark St. and bar hop. It is insane how many bars and clubs are on that street. Heck, maybe one of the days we could take in a Sox or Cubs game.

Here is a map of the train system we have in Chicago:

There is even a train to the Gary-Chicago Airport (South Shore Line) that goes between South Bend and Chicago, so if we can arrange a tour of Boeing's Corporate hangar that would be ideal. The train station is a mile and a half south of Gary Airport, so that is something we'd need to consider.

Like I said earlier too, there are three major airlines and two major airports here that we could try and arrange tours with.

Don't think I'm trying to sell Chicago because I live here. I mean, that is part of the reason, because I know a lot about this city, but I think it would be ideal for what is trying to be accomplished with NJC. We don't have the museums like DC does with the Smithsonian and the Udvar-Hazy Center, but I'm not sure if that is what we'd want for a networking event. In the past we've always tried to do something that exposes the group to an aspect of professional aviation, like the sim rides, tower tour, ramp tour, etc. Maybe we could even arrange a guest speaker from one (or all) of the airlines here?

Oh, and yes, Daley sucks for Meigs. But you'd be surprised what he's done for the rest of the city... it is very clean, accessible, and safe.

Oh wow... I just checked too, and the Cubs play the White Sox in the Crosstown Classic on the third weekend in May... 18th, 19th, and 20th. Eh, tickets would be hard to get for that. The Cubs play home on the first weekend in May, and the Sox in the second weekend in May. Just another thing that might be fun, considering both stadiums are minutes away from train stops.

If a JC event goes down in NYC or DC this winter I will make it a point to attend. I vote for one of those venues.

BTW I think NYC would be the most fun and you can find reasonable accommodations there if we don't do it over some big event weekend. The only thing is I am out if it happens May through Sept. April would be dandy!

Umm... I meant in an NJC type of way... bars and clubs... yeah... Georgetown and Adams Morgan is okay... but Northern VA is a mess

Actually, if you wanted to do something in Old Town Alexandria or Shirlington or Crystal City, there are plenty of places to go.

And Crystal City has a pub where you can watch sports, and there's another pub right near that one where you can watch other types of sports if you know what I mean and I think you do.

well, it sounds like NYC would be out because of the expense...

the offer that seggy has forward sounds like it could work but how far away from the airport is it and can we get there by train and foot? how far from ACity? It is in residential and/or are there hotels near by?
...

The Airport is 20 minutes from the city. It would require a cab ride to get there. There are plenty of cheap rooms available at all the casinos, and though I have never used one, I imagine the casinos have shuttles to and from the airport. Once there, the entire boardwalk is available. Plenty of nightlife and cheap buffets. Spirit flies into Atlantic City.

While I'd like to see it happen here in South FL so I could attent, I wouldn't recommend holding it in Miami.

Old Town is cool... but the cabs there and back would be pricey.

As for the "other types" of sports, I was an 18 year old infantry soldier assigned to Ft Myers... of course I have no idea what you are talking about.:)

There's another plus for CHI that Matt sorta touched on: South Bend. Oversold into MDW and ORD? Check SBN and take the train.

Bah, I just move out of the east coast, and now you guys are headed there.

Afterthough: Oh, chicago - that might work.

To answer the question, BOS has a good transportation system (the T) as was mentioned. From my experience, it has stops convenient to anywhere you'd want to go. However, I'm not sure about there being a whole lot of aviation related stuff to do (I've only been in NH for 1+ years).

To not answer the question, you should have it in BOS because I'm too poor to make it to Vegas, and I missed out on meeting you guys when you couldn't make it to GRR about 2 years ago. (I did meet SteveC, and who could resist hanging out with Herreshoff?) :)

The Jersey shore points/ACity are all easy to get to by train (NJ Transit). There's a line that run directly down the coast, but stops just short of AC. To get to AC you can fly into PHL, take a short 15min. train ride on SEPTA to 30th Street Station, and catch a NJ Transit train from there directly to Atlantic City. This past summer I was non-reving to Newark (EWR station...just like BWI but a lot more convienient because it's attached by monorail) and hopping on a train directly from there to get down to Bay Head.

Just my opinion but this is my order. Depends on what time of year I guess too.
1.NYC
2. BOS
3. ORD
4. MIA
5. DC
