Next aircraft to fly.

Here are the pictures I took of the Twin Comanche today. I will be starting my twin training later this week, once the plane goes through annual. I am excited to move on to the twin portion of my training.

Here are the pictures, and even one of my ugly mug as well. I know we will be adding and updating some avionics and a GPS pretty quick as well.

DD,

Good looking airplane. BTW, cut your hair, hippie!!! I'm assuming that's you in the pic... . That cockpit brings back memories. It almost looks as disorganized as some of our Barons :)

It's to make it look like the airplane is doing this  , duh :) . I think it's the heater inlet, if memory serves me correctly...been a couple years, and it was only a couple of hours. I believe it has the Janitrol flame thrower, like most small twins that have heaters.

Yeah, that thing comes in very handy during the winter in most of the places we fly. Of course, that's if it is working, and if it doesn't overheat and cut off on you.

i thought that background looked familar and then i saw your location. looks like chanute, ks, destination of my first solo x-c (and a bunch more)

You can call her N8088 Spank Me.

Maybe I'll have to fly her with you one day. Or better yet, you come out to PHX and I'll take you to one of those crazy bars where the women take their clothes off.. :insane: :nana2:

I lived in PHX most of my life and dated half the dancers in Phoenix..LOL

I will be coming out there for sure though for a visit. I will let you know when I do.

I had it fail on me this winter....I cursed the bird.

Nice plane. That AI is going to take some getting used to. Commanches are nice planes. I have time in a single 260 and that thing was slick and didn't want to slow down. Should be fun.

Did you know that Piper made a twin commanche with 400hp engines at one time? Would love to travel in one of those bad boys.

Did they really make a twin version, also? I know they did a 400 hp single Comanche.

I have heard of a Twinco with 200HP engines, and a 400 single Comanche, but not a twin 400.

In FL? I'd be cursing too :whatever: :whatever: :whatever: :) . Yeah, they aren't the most reliable heaters in the world. Come on up to MN this winter and see how much you'd be cursing if the thing failed...hopefully, I'll be gone from there by then, but as long as the big fan up front is working, then I have a very good heater. And if the big fan stops, I'll be sweating too much to notice how cold I am :yar:

Dad and I fly a Miller Twin---200hp per side (IO360's). They can be tricky, especially during landing and in the event of critical engine loss. Would definitely recommend getting some dual time with a no-kidding Twin Comanche instructor.

With regards to a twin with 400hp per side, I don't remember that ever happening. I do remember reading about a test bird with 300hp per side (IO540's). Never made it beyond testing because it was just too much power---specifically, not enough rudder authority with loss of the critical engine. However, there's a great story about that bird.

During one of the test flights, the pilot had shut down and feathered one engine when he encountered a Moonie off his left wing. Even with just one engine, he was gaining on him so he decided to have a little fun. He passed the Moonie, and then, just so there was no question about whether the Twin had been in a dive or something, did a right 360, caught him, and passed him again.

No shmucko, it was in VA....and in north Florida it drops below freezing during the winter.

Shmucko, I live in JAX...:sitaware: :sitaware: :sitaware:

It was a joke. That's why I had the smilie at the end of the sentence. Yes, I have used the heater when flying runs in FL also, but it wouldn't hurt nearly as much as it would if you were farther north if the heater quit in the winter.
