Any chance for direct entry captains?
Please just stop. Yeah that commute works for you. But a lot of us want nothing to do with 2 years of reserve in NYC. I can hold captain there now too and I wouldn't even bid it if I were the #1 guy. Life is about a lot more than pay rates. I'd rather sit fat dumb and happy on FO pay watching my kid grow up than making an extra 120k as a captain missing it all. With upgrade continuing to drop drastically with no signs of stopping a new hire can expect to make $227/hr plus PS(Pending the highly likely TA approval by membership) at some point during their first year if they desire.
The New Hire Welcome is addressed to you as "Future Delta Captain". It is happening much faster than anyone could have ever imagined.

In before @Seggy says commuting is a choice

How does a newhire evaluation work now with probationary Captains?
"This pilot is a fantastic Delta newhire. I've never flown with someone so nice and as good as this guy. I'm left speechless and give a thumbs up to the hiring team for hiring such fine individuals. Signed, the CA of this evaluation flight."![]()
How long is the probationary period at Delta?
I'm missing the picture. What did you finally get as ClarkGriswold said? And Trip7, if you're commuting to reserve NYC as a CA, what city do you go out of?
I have a lot of guys at my company ask "when are you going to Delta/United?"
My response is usually "the money would be nice, but I'd rather hand myself by my testicles than fly another multi leg day through Laguardia."
Every time I jumpseat somewhere I'm reminded how much I hated that. "You have 20 minutes to eat, there are long lines everywhere but Burger King...go."
There are no probationary Captains. Probation ends when you successfully complete upgrade training.
400 block hours or 1 year for DOH, whichever comes first, unless you upgrade
I commute to NYC from ATL.
My life in T3 at LAX! Except.............. "it's only Burger King available, and there are long lines... go"
I've commuted home on you guys once. Airline experience was fine, but I was really expecting better things in the terminal.
