New To JC

Hey Guys,
I just got on JC. Waiting on AT SAT scores. :panic: After reading some of the reactions on the site to the test, I think I did pretty well. I feel the same as some of the other people on here. I think I ruled the math, scan, dials, and angles; did pretty well on the scenarios and letter factory (except for some of those stupid questions) and I hated the analogies. :yar:
Any advice on which way to go (PEPC or non-PEPC) after selection? I've heard PEPC is faster... help me out please.

Hey, welcome! :welcome2:

Congrats on finishing the AT-SAT. One step down, now the waiting begins, again.....

I would personally recommend that you go the PEPC route since that gets everything out of the way at once, and is maybe the most convenient. You do have to pay for your own airfare and hotel if you do that though, so if money is tight maybe go traditional. With the traditional route you interview close to home, hopefully, and it may be cheaper, but might take longer.

One thing to note is that there are a TON of applicants in the hiring pool right now and the PEPC's might not actually be any faster, though, so it is kind of a crap shoot. Bottom line is do the PEPC if you want convenience of getting everything done in a day, or go traditional if you want to save some $$$. Just my .02 though.

Again, welcome to JC!

Oh, and a word of encouragement...

If you thought you did well on the AT-SAT, you should be fine. I personally thought I did horrible when I was leaving the testing facility. Got a 98.6, and was pleasantly surprised. So, if you thought you did well, you probably rocked it!

Hi, GT!

Welcome to the community. You'll find a lot of helpful resources here as well as a multitude of questions. Check out some of the "sticky" threads as most, if not all of your questions are answered there. I just finished a fairly complete thread on the entire process, so if you want to check it out, the link is below. Good luck!

Thanks for the welcomes.

Well, I felt like i did terribly on a few sections (letter factory and analogies) and a few of the planes on my scenario blew up due to a wing of the arrow touching a pixel of the corridor for exit or landing. However, after reading the way some of you felt after taking it and then seeing the scores my anxiety was settled (only slightly). The guys from Robinson Aviation that proctored the test said they would start checking for test scores today. I took the test on Friday. I am hoping I find out my scores soon.

I am thinking I am going to go PEPC when I get selected (positive thinking never hurts). :rawk: From what I can tell it seems easier to do it all at one time rather than breaking everything up. If you go PEPC, do you get a TOL there or after? I'm trying to figure this all out, seeing that all my controller buddies got into it through the air force.

You get your tol at the PEPC. If you haven't already, please read the info in the link that swinte posted. It is pretty all encompassing and seemed to accurately reflect my experience as well. lots of good info there.

\shameless plug

I am reading it now. How would you go about getting your medical records? Would I just call my primary care, dentist, and optometrist and ask for a copy? I've never had to turn in my medical records. Should I get a copy of my driving record and arrest record? I've never been arrested but I do have a bumpy driving record from when I was younger. Also would you recommend filling out the SF 85 prior to going to a PEPC?

It definitely wouldn't hurt to start amassing all of the paperwork you can. You will need everything when you fill out the e-qip, which is the online security clearance system that the federal office of personnel management uses. As far as the traffic stuff, they only require that you list tickets that resulted in fines of $150+, so the minor speeding stuff won't/shouldn't hurt you. How do you get the paperwork? I had copies of most everything I needed laying around or filed with old important paperwork type stuff. I would suggest requesting copies directly from the doctor's offices you've been to. Dentist stuff shouldn't be necessary, and I didn't need anything ffrom the opto, and I need to wear glasses to get 20/20 corrected.

hope that helps get you started, keep reading... lots of good info on this site.

I wish they hadn't closed my sticky post. I'm beginning to notice things I left out...

I didn't have 20/20 at the PEPC, and they required my contact prescription and a note on the optometrist's letterhead stating I have 20/20 before they would give me a medical clearance.

Obtaining your medical records is as simple as calling the hospital/doctor's office you went to and telling them you need a copy. They'll know what to do. Oh, and don't take NO for an answer from a secretary. I had one tell me that she couldn't give me my own information. I called her bluff :D

I have a couple traffic tickets over $150. I don't remember as they were over 7 years ago... do you think these will hurt me? Did you guys freak out like this when you were going through this process? My fiance has told me I need to stop because I am generally the calm, cool, collected one out of the 2 of us. She said I have done nothing but :panic: since i finished taking the test.

Well, if it is a career that you are passionate about, it makes sense to be concerned that everything will go according to plan, but definitely don't freak!!

I had one pretty bad ticket that was careless and speeding which required appearing in court and attending a defensive driving course and all that jazz. I was fine at the PEPC, I just showed the Flight surgeon all the documents relating to the ticket, and he was cool with it. I also had a problem with my EKG, which I had never done prior to the PEPC, and had to go see a cardiac specialist when I got home because I had a heartbeat irregularity, that was also fine after I got them the additional info they needed. Oh, and I also failed the MMPI (psychological evaluation) and had to see a shrink to get cleared, and that also turned out fine. So, I had about everything go wrong that possibly could, and I made it through.

Bottom line: If you get hung up on something at the PEPC, it is probably not a show stopper and you just need to jump through their hoops and wait a little longer. Just do everything they say and get them all the info they request and you will be fine.

Do any of you guys listen to ATCmonitor.com? I've been listening all morning to the ATL tower and I'm loving it!:rawk:

I can't really remember what you have to list if it's more than 7 years old. For now, just relax. You're going to have PLENTY of time between now and getting an e-QIP questionnaire, so it's best to wait until you get the instructions to do that. The SF85 and SF86 can pretty well answer all of your security investigation concerns. I posted links to the PDFs on the link above.

I wish they hadn't closed my sticky post. I'm beginning to notice things I left out...

All you have to do is get a hold of one of the mods or admins and we can open it back up. I just didn't want the thread to get run over with extraneous information.

I'll open it up so you can add post(s). If I forget later you can remind me and I can re-close it.
