New Student Dispatcher Seeking Advice

Greetings to all, and thank you for taking the time to browse this post.

I will be starting the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Aircraft Dispatch Technology at Texas State Technical College - Waco in the Fall.

As a new student starting out in the dispatch field, I would be extremely grateful if any of you might share thoughts, advice, and other "inside track" information you believe would be helpful to a dispatch student starting out.

I am dedicated to doing the best job I possibly can as a student, so I am eager to find out what tickets need to be punched and when/where/how they should be punched in order to assure maximum opportunity.

Additionally, if you are aware of any sources of funding for dispatch school, I would be grateful to know of them. I am paying for my training out of pocket (no more student loans, ever), so any line on available funds is welcome news.

Right now, if you are in ground school, dont worry about the future. Just pay attention to what your instructors teach - dont worry about the rumors, innuendo, or the crap that flies around the industry. The industry itself sucks.

I dont like the phrase about getting your tickets punched. Its not an A, then B, then C, then success. A lot of it is luck, and right place right time.

Samurai, a 4-year degree is absolutely not required for dispatching, but also may be extremely beneficial to you in the long-run for a viable plan B.
 
If your going to be paying for your degree out of pocket here's a suggestion. Call Sheffield School of Aeronautics and look into their program. You can do their in-house program for about 6000.00,that includes housing,the ADX written and practical test. Free lifetime training and job placement assistance.I had a job interview as soon as I graduated.
They are well respected in the industry. Do that and you could possibly be working as a dispatcher before the fall term at TSTC even starts.
