New speed record for me

A300Capt

Freight Dawg
Winds were strong last night and I set a personal speed record for myself between KIAH-KSDF on the A300 which is not normally a speed demon.

655kt GS with 171kt direct tailwind! I've done better in B767 but this was the best for me on the 'Bus.

"That's not just Express options, That's Express Options with UPS..." :D

Nice. That's almost 11 NM/min! My personal record is pretty sad; the best I've done in the Brasilia was 420 knots over the ground during a descent. 400 "ish" level. (Winter jetstream of course. Every once in awhile us turboprop guys get to fly almost at jet speeds. :) )

I hit 405kts level in an MU-2L (the slow longbody three blader) going to SDF last week to pick up a windshield for one of your big-boy planes. Of course, I had to take it to MCI, which trued me something like 225kts at 8000ft, burning gas like it was 1970! There was a twin cessna on frequency doing 115. I guess the moral of the story is, God bless the midwestern jetstream as long as you're headed east.

Lee,

I thought you were flying the jet now?

Nah, still in the Brasilia. I had a bid in for the Jet forever, SLC only, but it never happened. Almost did ORD, but changed my mind due to the commute. My QOL is much better on the EMB than it would be on the jet in SLC. (I'd be well into the reserve list getting "leftovers.") So I'll hang here for the time being. With this economy that is what 4 + years of senority will get you. Actually I don't mind. It could be much worse.

Hey Boris, did your GPS happen to take a leave of absence for a while 60 West of SDF? Just wondering if you're the same guy....

Haha! That was me. Evansville Approach, I take it? Man, small world.

You'll be happy to know that the GPS' New Year's resolution to be good and work seems to be holding (so far). ;)
