So the rumor floating around the office is that ATP is going to be getting 5 or 6 of the new DA40 Diamond Stars with the Garmin 1000s in them. Don't know the exact details of the program but it is something like a 600 hour single engine training program as a part of the airline training program. Don't know much more than that but supposedly it is going to get started by the 1st of the year.

All right, so here's how I understand it. Basically you go through the Career Pilot Program up to the CFI portion. At that point you will have a choice. Either you can continue through the CFI portion as the program as is currently done, or you can opt to pay an additional amount (I don't know what it is) and fly 600 hours of XCs in the DA40s. The program is designed for those people who don't want to instruct to build the time. In the long run it will be a slightly faster path to the regional which will benefit those people who are slightly older and are in more of a hurry to get a seniority number. Also, there is some CRJ training thrown in there as well. I'm sure there are going to be some changes before it gets going, but the DA40s should be on the ramp in December some time. Full glass baby

But what is 300 hours in a DA40 gonna cost? I assume that you will split the time with a partner and take turns under the hood?
 
Hm, sounds interesting. Can you pursue this option even if you've already begun an ACPP program? I wouldn't be ready to start my CFI training until close to next summer. (Doing the self-paced program.)

600 hours in a single is a lot of flying just for the hell of it. You and your flight partner after 100 hours

Twin time would be a bonus...but you still are looking at flying 600 hours in a very short time...sounds tough!
