New Position

I was scheduled for my next rotation through Afghanistan on Tuesday. But this past Thursday the boss called about an opening in the training department at corporate in Dallas. I was offered the job yesterday and accepted.

Now the challenge is to pack an entire house in two days without help from the wife (business trip), pack the uhaul, and find a place to stay until I can buy a house.

Did I mention I'm leaving my wife behind?

She got a new position in her company two weeks ago which keeps her on the eastern seaboard. I'll fly to visit once a month or so. Weirdest relationship ever.

Are you teaching people to do the same thing you were doing over there? Can you tell us anything about the gig?

I honestly have no clue what I'm doing :)

I assume it's a lot of paperwork shuffling and bureaucracy. There would be a little system specific computer programs training and I would be certified as a range safety officer and NRA instructor for weapons training. Other than that I can't say for sure what my role is. Don't you love it?

It's going to be a lot easier to network and move within corporate for other opportunities, and I'll probably rotate at least once a year. But it is a huge pay cut since OCONUS pays so well. That's the trade off.

Thanks I'll let you know when I'm settled in. I'm up in Richardson right now, the wife is flying in on Friday to look at houses. 10 houses to look at between Sachse, Rowlett, Richardson, Plano, Wylie, North Arlington and Grand Prarie. Should be a grand adventure...

Your taxes are going to be higher in Richardson than any of the others because Dallas county; school taxes especially. Anything in Plano is experiencing a price increase due to high demand.

That said, you've listed a HUGE swath of geography there. Prices are going to be WAY better in Arlington and GP.

Totally understood. Where in town will your office be? Depending on the different towns you listed, you are looking at anywhere from a 20 minute commute to over an hour.

So would I, if my office was on the east side of US75 or at least close to the Dallas North Tollway. If my office was west of that, though, the commute would be horrific.
