I have a valid physical right now. I have not flown in about a year and would like to start flying again. I had a gastric by pass in March am healed and off all medication. I have been released for full duty by my surgeon, no physical limitations. I asked the flight Dr. today and he said getting a new physical shouldn't be a problem. So my question for you is, Do I need to get a new physical now or can I use the one I have until time to renew it?

The FAA will want to see that you have niot had any ill effects from the surgery at your next medical. I could find nowhere that the surgery itself is DQ. You are probably better off with the FAA getting a new medical and taking your surgery records to the AME at the time of the medical.
