New Name for 9E?

How is VX? Is the seasonal deferring of deliveries worrying anyone out on the line?
Not really. It made sense to slow the growth plans down given the price of oil and still weakened economy. When the initial order for 60 aircraft was made in 2010, the average crude oil price/barrel was ~ $78. For 2013, that average is now ~ $109 per barrel. The order was based assuming an oil price relatively close to the 2010 average. Now the average fuel cost for 2013 is $31 million more, and that is cutting into what otherwise would have been used as pre-delivery payments on 5 Airbuses this year. That's why we take 1 A320 for 2013 and the rest are deferred. The goal now is to maximize the network, and fly the planes on optimized routes/schedules that make money. For example, after July 15 VX cuts the SFO-MCO flight and uses that freed-up aircraft to do the new SFO-AUS turn and continuing on the ANC night flight up to Alaska, redeye flight down to SFO. So 1 airplane is pulled from an unprofitable SFO-MCO and used for 2 routes in the Summer as replacement. LAX-MCO continues, no changes there.

Right now, I'm just looking forward to the new pilot pay increase email due out tomorrow. The rumor is a 5-10% increase.

How about you?

Problem is there's little competition on the SFO-MCO route. SFO-ANC and SFO-AUS? May the best man win. You're going head to head with us on both this summer. Not to mention I THINK Alaska may also do SFO-ANC. We've been getting our clock cleaned on the ANC flying thanks to Alaska, hence the reason it's seasonal now.

Apparently SFO-MCO lost way too much money to justify continuing it further. The ANC is seasonal only, June-Sept I think it was.

Was at the school-house yesterday for a safety committee meeting, heard the following:

-Jepps are in, LIDOs out. They wanted it done a few months ago but it sounds like it may happen after exit from Ch. 11
-Not sure about IPADs, but the manager who came in to talk to us said Delta is essentially running the airline now and our operations will try to mirror theirs, therefore look to possibly switching to ship-set charts in the future, no time frame was given.
-Apparently our new CEO has raised the question to Delta about improving our travel benefits, we shall see where that goes
-Sounds like a name-change is in the works, and something completely different from the original three. Sounds like they want to completely re-brand the company after exit from Ch. 11. Makes sense with a CEO that is not affiliated with the legacy 9E/XJ/9L. Could take a while to happen.
-TW was in recurrent class yesterday and after poking my head in for a few seconds, it sounds like the company is looking at the CRJ-900 options Delta has, as well as additional CRJ-700 flying (did not hear where they would come from)
-It sounds like Gumm communicates with RA directly on a continuous basis, Delta really wants to make this company efficient and has already begun taking over the IT department. Sounds like they may have control over other departments in the future as well

Wouldn't a new name cost more money than changing it lets say to Mesaba where you have a certificate already?

I'm pretty sure the certificate has been turned in. Not saying it couldn't happen and I could see it happening if Spanjers was staying, but my guess with the new guy is a different name.

When I retire, people aren't going to remember the 35 years I spent at whatever legacy carrier I retire from. No, instead my friends are going to say, "HEY REMEMBER WHEN YOU WORKED ARE SUREJET!?!?!?"

To this day, my wife still won't let the joke die.
Well I guess they could have still called the whole thing "ASA - Another SkyWest Airline, Inc."
