Hello, I've been reading JC for about a month now and I just want to say that it has been very helpful. I have been thinking about a career change from Police to Pilot for some time now. I have wanted to be a pilot my entire life, however when I was in high school I heard too many people tell me that you had to be a math wizard to do it. Not being terrible at math, but not a wizard I gave up on it. At age 22 I had a daughter, and I just became a police officer because it sounded interesting and it was a stable job. The longer I am a Police Officer the more I wish I hadn't listened to everyone. I am now 32 years old, and probably not in the absolute best situation to just up and quit my job. I 've been looking at a few different options that might let me keep my job and still get the training. I just know that I want to try to follow my dream, and I am very confident that I will be able to pass all of the qualifications and I know that there are many.

Don't a lot of law enforcement agencies have fixed wing pilot positions? That could be a cool job, and the pay would be better than a CFI!

yea... actually, i think they do! that would be a good place to start! have you started working on your PPL already?

Welcome aboard!!

Not many agencies that I know of have fixed wing aircraft. Some of the bigger agencies have helicopters. The state police have some fixed wing, however I believe these jobs are soaked up pretty quickly. It is something I have thought about trying to look into after I'm done with everything. I am currently looking around the area and will probably get my PPL at a local FBO, and then look from there.

We have a couple of Highway Patrol 182 flying around here in Akron, OH. Not sure how many they have but had 2 on the ground at AKR the other day.

they probably do get soaked up quicker than usual.. but you have an "in" already, so i think it's a fine long term goal to run with!

Contact border patrol !!! A guy I am in flight school with was an officer in Texas, and he is applying to the Border Patrol and I want to say, but not with accuracy, after 2 years foot, he can apply for a pilot position. And I hear they just bought a bunch of PC-12's !!!
