Hello everyone. I've been a long time lurker and enjoyed reading the various posts. I just thought it was a good idea to actually sign on, introduce mysef and say hi.

I'm 47 and working two jobs. I'm CFII ing in the mighty 172 part time but my current full time job is as a police officer. I actually have 21 years behind me and can retire at any moment. (insert hoping for really good aviation job) LOL
I got into aviation a bit later in life but it wasn't because I was thinking of a career upon retirement. I had gotten divorced and wanted to do something for me. Since I always wanted to learn to fly, there it was. Since I wanted to keep flying after I got my PPL, I figured it was just better to work on obtaining additional ratings. After you get your commercial, getting your CFII is within easy grasp. Without ever really planning it, there I was, working as a flight instructor, actually getting paid (well you know, sort of) to fly.

Would I like to be flying something bigger, faster? Sure. Am I still happy flying and teaching in the ever popular 172? Ofcourse, I mean I'm flying right? I look forward to every flight. Even a day on the ground teaching is still not a bad thing.

I've been toying with the idea of getting my MEI. I was thinking of it as a way to get some additional multi time, and at the same time (cost noted), I could come out of it with an additional rating. But I wonder. Like I said, the flight school I'm at doesn't have any twins and is it likely, or even possible, to get a job as an MEI with a new ticket at a flight school you never worked at before? I'm thinking probably not.

I bring this out because like most of us here, we're thinking of that bigger better flying job. I'm picky though. Would I want to go to a regional? Maybe. Do I want to move? No. Do I want to commute?......mmmmmmm maybe.

Forgive my longwinded post. I wanted to introduce myself to the JC community and just bounce some thoughts and ideas of my own aviation experiences.

Glad to have you here Sir welcome aboard good ship JC! We student pilots need your bank of knowledge here. Please visit CFI corner of this very forum and post your thoughts and experience. There is quite sizeable group of pilots from NYC here maybe we will get a get-together sometime in the spring. The cause could be my private... or something else...

Welcome to JC, and thanks for your service wearing the badge. I admit I don't care for speed traps, but I don't even grumble about those after dealing with the TSA for a while. :D

Kick some ideas around and see what germinates. We've got a full spectrum bunch here and we're all glad to help. Most of us, anyhow. Some of us just wanna have a laugh, and I suppose that's okay sometimes, too. Cheers.

Awesome and welcome!

MEI is a great way to further your flying options and learn more in the process. I highly recommend it.

Welcome to JC!

Have you looked at staying in the same field and flying? I know back in IL they ran a handful of different fixed wing aircraft for various reasons. You had to be state police for so many years first to.

Welcome to JC!

Thanks for the informative intro too... it's always nice when folks tell a bit about themselves when they first come on here. It lends a great deal of perspective.

Stay safe in both jobs... and welcome again!

Bob

Welcome!

I loved doing Instrument and Multi training. Some of my favorite stuff to teach.

Hey everyone. Thanks for the welcome and the responses. I must say that over the years this board, and others, have certainly contributed to my aviation knowledge. I really is a good resource.

Firebird, I agree about the tickets. Fortunately, I haven't worked in a unit that I've had to do that for sometime. As for the TSA, we all have our stories.... LOL

Z987K, I already have the wheels in motion for that. On our job we don't have fixed wing, just helicopters. Minimums would be that you already have to be a police officer on our department. Second, either a Private Heli or Commercial fixed wing. Third........ a good phone call.... LOL

Fencer, I'm always up for a visit with other pilots from the area. Sounds like a good idea.
