Well no student is required to fly every day available so how can they MAKE YOU fly on Saturdays if you work? It is going to make some students fly only 4 days a week now instead of 5.

Also, you would think that with the downsized facilities and sam size fleet that there would be more planes avaible each day since there are less students than there were in Oakland.

I must be in the minority here, but I think this is the way it should be. Hiring more mechanics will cost more money, and that is something that we do not have. A couple reasons we do not have the money to do that is they have the place open on Saturdays and only one or two people actually fly on Saturday. That means loss of income. Another reason is that when everybody is cramming their schedules into Monday through Friday, there are more people competing for the available aircraft and as a result flights are getting canceled, also meaning loss of income. Another reason is weather. When the weather is bad on a weekday and everybody has to cancel, and then the weather is perfectly flyable on Saturday but nobody's on the schedule, we lose money both those days when one of them could have been productive. Spreading things out over 6 days is a win/win situation for just about everybody.

It does suck for those that work weekends, but perhaps those who work can arrange their work schedules around their instructors days off. We still have 2 days a week available, I see no reason why 2 days off have to be saturday and sunday. In fact I prefer to have at least one weekday off because everybody else in the world has Saturday and Sunday off. This means I can drive to school on Saturday and not have to deal with traffic and I can do things like go to Home Depot on my day off and not have to risk my life dealing with the crowd. Just an example.

I know that some employers are in more demand of employees on weekends, and I feel for those in that situation, but I really feel this is a good thing for Sierra. About a year ago they were talking about the instructors having a 6 day on 2 day off schedule, which I though was a good idea but never happened. What we have decided to do now I think is a good comprimise.

Also, I haven't looked too much into it but I don't think they can MAKE you fly on Saturday, any more than they can make you fly any other day. Just don't have your instructor schedule you that day. You'll only fly 4 days a week that way, but if you absolutely need Saturday off you can get it.
