New Feature: The "Map"

My vote is still for the first map, this kinda look like a video game made back in the early 90's.

Kind of "War Gamey" on the current one isn't it...

Well, the original "realistic" map it is!

I could swear the original map had dots on them and not the death crosses. I must be going crazy.

Doug(h) can you set a chronjob (I think that's the right thing) to save the image every 30 min and then build an animation? It would be pretty neat to see the flow of users and see if the freight dogs offset the normal rise and fall of logins based on daylight. I guess you could just use an image capture program to save the image too.

Amazing!

I see we have one lonely representative of the African Continent - perhaps Nigeria?

I also see our aspiring flight attendant from Yemen!

It would be too cool if you could somehow synch this with Google Earth.

I probably could, but you'll have to give me a few weeks on that as I've got some other projects I've got to crank out.

The map thing is both heartwarming and simultaneously scary!

It's neat to see such a wide audience, both from registered users and people that are currently logged in (bottom graphic).

But scary because I travel overseas a lot and I'm not sure if I'm prepared to be in a coffeehouse in Dakar and have a guy scream "Der der der website der!"

What are our locations based on? Like current IP or whatever... guess I'm not sure what would go into it. But I'm from Minnesota but currently in Hawaii... Where do I show up?

The first screen looks at your registration IP address adn the second screen looks at people that are presently logged in and their current IP address.

On the second graphic, what the software package does is scan the "who's online" listing that's live on the website, looks at the IP addresses and compares that to a "GEO Target" database (basically a big file that says 201.181.xxx.xxx = East Durka Gandu) and then it'll plot it on the map.

Whoops! To answer your question.

You'll be MN on the first graphic, and then HI for the second graphic.

I dunno! Still experimenting with the feature and studying for recurrent training so I haven't had a chance to experiment much.

Plus the margarita isn't helping productivity either. Yow.

Whose the guy up in BFE Canada I wonder?

We need way more JCPeeps in South America. BCTAV8R's gotta get on the ball!
