New Eye Test Machines

Ok so we know the color vision test is going away after you do it once

Has anyone heard about the table top eye test machine going away and new tech being brought? I heard there were switching to something more computer based.

@Bandit_Driver in early December 2024 the FAA announced that it was going to computer based color vision testing, starting January 1, 2025. Any airman who previously passed an approved color vision test is grandfathered in and no longer is required to take a color test. New applicants take 1 of 3 approved computerized tests. All of the previously approved color vision testing methods are no longer accepted by the FAA.

Not AME related, but the last several visit to the optho MD (I go every 2 years) had my eyeballs scanned by a gizmo that I can only as “impressive”.

Stick your head to the visor. Scan your eyes. Zippity zip and it spits out all relevant data including a Rx if requires, astigmatism, the full deluxe car wash.

HIGHLY recommend that you go at least 2 years. Glaucoma can develop and do bad things. While you’re at it, get the finger every year after 40 and the “snoop” every 10. The life you save may be your own.

Now as much as my color sense is disparaged by my SO, the doc says it’s normal, so your mileage may vary.
